I have just fitted a new cylinder head, due to a crack inside number three exhaust post. Engine starts well and heater plug light acts as it should. Took it out for a test drive, water temp gauge rose to it's normal position and stayed there however after approx 5 miles the heater plug light started flashing and when I turned the engine off the cooling fan continued for about 5 mins. when checking the water level in the header tank it had ejected some water. Any ideas

Air lock in the coolant? Was it bled as per the instructions on YouTube?

I wouldn't have thought that would cause the heater plug light to flash though.

thinking about this more--------------.
is the glow plug rail shorting out on the top of the fuel link pipes from the injectors. check for rubbing carefully.

when fitted wrongly this take a while to rub the plastic insulation off, then shorts, the front fans coming on is usual for the ignition off/direct short or low battery volts state.

Thanks everyone, the system was bled correctly and level has settled. The flashing light now only happens occasionally, so will check for shorting etc.
