Hello! Newbie advice please for a new wheel.

Post by lee1972 » Fri Aug 23, 2013 8:11 pm

Hi everyone!
I bought a bongo yesterday but on the journey home I noticed a problem driving on the motorway. A rear wheel was wobbling, and when inspected at home (after a 120 mile journey) the wheel came away in our hands!
I now have a lovely bongo, but only three wheels...
Its a N plate, 1996, 4WD and 15inch wheel. Tyre size 195 x 70 x 15.
Where can I get a replacement in the south wales area? Any ideas? Should I look to scrap yards or a dealer?
Thanks in advance (and can't wait to get out in my bongo!!!)

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Are you missing the nuts, presumably you still have the actual wheel itself, or is it damaged ?

If you do need an actual wheel see this link http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... 70#p600370
You might also be able to get a Relay (between forum users) to get it across to you ...

the wheel should be correct, its the tyre size that is the issue, it should have 195 70 15 fronts, and larger on the rears, usually 215 65 15 on the
back.
some use all four the same size as the rears so rotation is easier.

there is a plate on the door B post that gives the correct sizes.
THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT AS YOURS IS A 4 WHEEL DRIVE.

use the search tab at the top right of the screen and search for wheel and tyre sizes and have a read. .

welcome to the world of bongo.s. :)

Thanks again Northern, that's really helpful. Will read up on the forum and get myself the Haynes manual for Bongos I saw on Amazon.
Cheers!

There is no Haynes manual for the Bongo and don't believe anything on Amazon (or anywhere else) that tells you otherwise. You can get a manual translated from Japanese, but you will find the answers to all your questions on this forum and if you join the club, you will have access to all the factsheet in the members area.

Out of interest, did you buy the Bongo from the Bristol area, perhaps via eBay? Either way, you may be wise to get it checked over for peace of mind.

Got it from a private seller in Pembrokeshire. Did view a few in bristol as well though. Is there avreason why you mentioned bristol? My father in law knows a lot about cars and is giving it a going over in his garage for me, hopefully no more surprises!

That's ok then :). There has been quite a lot of discussion on the forum regarding seller(s) from Bristol who list vehicles on eBay that are perhaps not all they are cracked up to be. Glad to here you've got someone who can check it over for you just to be on the safe side.

Hi Lee whereabouts are you, I am in Aberdare, cheapest place for tyres is Sardis Road tyres at Pontypridd, I have had mine 10 years now and am running 215's all round, £47.50 each fitted. Tons of stuff on here mate, never be afraid to ask any question, no matter how daft you might think it is, we have all been there.

Thanks David, its not just a tyre, I need as 15 inch wheel too! The journey home ruined the stud holes and they became egg shaped. If you know of anywhere I can get a wheel, it would be appreciated. Cheers, lee

Steel or alloy? I've got a steel wheel with bald tyre which I'm planning on fitting a replacement tyre so it can be sold as fully functioning spare. I could probably do a deal if you're desperate.
