Re: how to check the oil
You are correct, the engine is indeed under the seats.
First park your Bongo on level ground & stop the engine.
You need to remove the center console tray. This is held down by 2 grey plastic wing nuts, one under the large ashtray & one inside the rear box/tray.
Then go to the passenger side seat & lift the carpet around the front lower part & you should see 2 spring over clips.Release these & then look about center of the seat in the center console area & you should see a third one to release.
The whole seat assembly should now tilt backwards & you can gain access to the engine bay. The engine oil dipstick is towards the front of the engine.
Pull it out & clean it, then insert, withdraw & see where the level is. Top up if necessary. Add the oil in
small amounts as it is easier to put it in the engine than take to it out!! DO NOT over fill, ie. take the oil level above the max level line as this may then damage your engine...... catastrophically.
Hope this makes sense,
Happy dipping
Nigel.
I'm obviously a slower typer & can't use short cut links....

Re: how to check the oil
One thing left out, oil should only be checked when engine is cold, e.g first thing in the morning after it has stood all night to get an accurate reading. Same goes for tyre pressures, lol.
