Hello all Newbie here!

Post by Louiseupnorth » Thu Jul 15, 2010 1:34 am

Hi
I am looking to buy a Mazda Bongo freetop.
i am getting different information on the wax oil (undersealing) of vehicles imported from Japan. i had understood that it was fairly necessary but one dealer insists others are doing it to cover up rust etc. Help please! Also any other typical problems I should be looking out for?
regards
Louise

hi and welcome.
you are right to be concerned about waxoiling but.
i have just bought one that has been in the country for three years, never waxoiled, and was showing slight signs of surface rust.but at least i could see what was there.it has now been done.my point is,i like to see if its bad,and not hiden under a lovely oily covering.the other side of that is that if its been done as it came in to the country it SHOULD be ok.rust around the rear wheel arches will give you some clues.
the other main prolem area is the cooling system.make sure you take someone who knows bongos with you, when you go to view.there are lots of good peeps in west yorks who could help.
i have pmd you .

Eyup louise~up~north :) ~the bloke's probably got a point about waxoyl covering the rust as quite a few garages give them a quick flash over where you can see it~my first Bongo was waxoyled & it was obvious it had been done by looking underneath but a few weeks on i changed the spare wheel & they had painted around that so i took inner wheel arches off & the same there but there was no rust evident (but they did'nt know that)
So what i'm saying is it definitely wants waxoiling but if you did buy one not done it would be advisable to let a specialist do it or diy to do it properly.
Regards Ray & Christine

It's only easy when you know the answer!!!!!!!!!!
