Bongo Novice...west yorkshire
Hi All
I am looking to buy a Mazda Bongo freetop.
i am getting different information on the wax oil (undersealing) of vehicles imported from Japan. i had understood that it was fairly necessary but one dealer insists others are doing it to cover up rust etc. Help please! Also any other typical problems I should be looking out for?
regards
Louise

welcome - sorry cant help you with the question really as i'm not a very technical person.
As far as i know the wax oiling is done because they dont use salt in japan and dont keep their cars long -they get charged a fortune for anything on the road after 3 years so tend to buy new - therefore they dont need to worry about rust as we do.
ours is wax oiled if it hadnt been i would have got it done.
it may be that some dealers do this to cover up - it may be that some dealers say it has been done when it hasnt the thing to do is try and ensure you are not buying from a dodgy dealer.Have a trawl through the site and see which ones people have recommended.
There are a few people in your area so try posting in the yorkshire section for dealers close to you who are recommended
try posting again in bongo chat for general replys about wax oiling or do a search to find what people have said before.

Some might, most won't. A majority of Waxoyled Bongos have been done freshly on import.
As they come off the boat pretty rust free (generaly), chances are its good underneath. If its a genuine good 'un, there should be enough history paperwork to show whats been done & when.
As much documented paperwork as possible is the key to a good buy.
Its a lot easier to diagnose a problem in the future if you know whats been happening in the the past.
Happy Huntng.
