Red Squirrel 24th August - Beef Stew

Post by Driver+Passengers » Thu Aug 01, 2013 7:41 am

On Saturday 24th August, I will cook a beef stew as big as my pot will hold.

Here's the shopping list - feel free to put your name down for something...

[*] 10kg charcoal briquettes
[*] 2kg potatoes
[*] 2kg carrots
[*] 1kg onions
[*] a few leeks
[*] 2kg stewing beef/venison/yak
[*] 1 bottle red wine
[*] whole garlic, whole peppercorns, bay leaves, salt, bouqet garni teabag
[*] 2x small ready-mix wholegrain bread mix
[*] (Matt) veg oil ;)
[*] (Matt) stuff to cook it in

I will have to sit this one out again. My Arab pal from my college days is now on holiday with us together with his wife & youngest daughter. I was hoping to get away alone with him for a weekend to live it up a bit like in the old days but the stroke he had a few years back is more sever than I thought. He needs a level surface to walk on and a wheelchair would not be much use at Red Squirrel.

I will also need a pitch where my new 2WD motorhome will not get bogged down again that is not a million miles away from where you lot are pitched.

Bummer!

Oooh, yum - Chrissy! I'd be happy to contribute to the cost of meat.

Sorry we won't see you there this time, Tony.

Sounds good, even though I wouldn't be able to have any, however, it looks like we won't manage this meet as my daughter is moving house around about then :(

Hope you all enjoy it though.

Hi Matt

If there are no other takers we can bring the seasonings ( garlic, bay leaves, salt etc) as well as the vino.

Looking forward to having a taste.

I think it is because they like to keep things fairly simple. Kind of wild camping with toilets and showers. Plus a lot of the people who use it are one nighters, climbers/hillwalkers/student clubs etc. But we are usually the rowdy ones!
