Polish oil testing guy (waste some mins of your life)...

Post by BongoBongo123 » Tue Jul 06, 2021 2:28 pm

I use various oils and leave them in quite short periods before chaging... Mannol 5w/40 synthetic going in next change (winter oil), Britoil in at the moment, Triple QX sem and fully synth before that... I am not sure these tests tell us much other than what you see in the very specific test he does.. can waste a few mins looking at your favourite oils.. bear in mind different ratings as well.

A few to start you off...

Magnatec 5w/40

I have used Triple QX before as well..

Mannol Extreme 5w/40

Went to a very large world wide company the other week, their job is to get an engine from the manufacturer and make sure it meets their spec required / desired, they strip, measure everything, then develope an additive specifically for that engine, test measure, test measure, until it meets it.
These are fuel additives but after a very informative chat he informed me that the same levels of care are done on oils, this is how the specific oils for certain models and even brands are becoming more essential. not saying the above is good or bad but with the dissimilar metals etc in a modern engine not using the correct oil grade and more important reading small print specs is becoming vital.
Oils don't just lubricate, they remove, suspend clean the ness bits and bobs around the jangly bits.

I can certainly imagine this for the super modern engine... super tight tolerances, high efficiency, tight tolerances, massive output of horsepower for an engine that is much smaller than they ever were. Oil becomes the same as a component.

So far I like Mannol and Triple QX, the best for the lower cost stuff.

I did not like Shell Helix, it made the engine noisier.

The tests listed above do not take into account how the oil is after being in an engine 6 months.. i.e. endurance.
