Alphard insurance

Post by mikeWalsall » Wed Feb 03, 2016 1:24 pm

I thought the Alphard would be the Bongos successor ..

I am gifting my Bongo to a Grand son so phoned around yesterday to insure my Alphard which as sat on my drive for twelve months now ..

What an horrible .. humiliating .. task .. Dunno how many Japanese 'specialist' import insures I tried but not a single one got back to me with a price ..

Most had never heard of a Toyota Alphard .. then the reasons to why "we will have to get back to you" ..

"Ah .. it's got LPG .. that is classed as a modification .. Oh .. "it's got an electric swiveling disability chair and wheel chair lift" ..

Errr .. the LPG conversion is on the UKLPG register and I have two other motors on LPG with no problems ..

"Unlike the UK WAVs .. Berlingos .. Kangoos .. Diablos etc: that are converted by out siders .. the Alphard WAV is made in the Toyota factory .. it's on sale in there show rooms .. and glossy brochures are freely available" ...

"It's your age .. we only insure drivers up 69 years old" .. Ummm ... so a an OAP riding / driving blame free for 57 years .. with a clean license .. insuring an MPV is more of a risk than a 25 year old in a tweaked up Scooby .. Skyliner or what ever" ..??

Any way .. I thought I would try the company I was with before the Bongo .. Chris Knott .. what a pleasant change .. "sorry I have never heard of an Alphard... we still have your details / history on file .. I will get back to you" ..

Bugga I thought here we go again .. but fare dues she did .. @ £500 it was more than I was expecting / wanting to pay .. but by this time I was so fed up .. I have gone for it ..

But there again I suppose been spoilt with the £200 I pay to the C&CC for my V6 JAL Bongo ...
JAL Mushroom roof,12/240v, fridge, cooker, sink, LPG V6 .. (written off @ £5500 Nov 2016)
