Post by aintgotabongo » Thu May 28, 2015 7:06 pm

Got my renewal from direct line this week, £560  had a couple of minor accidents 5 years ago and I couldn't get a quote any cheaper, as a matter of fact the insurers I was with before direct line theyre renewal was over £800
Today I rang http://www.staveleyhead.co.uk/personal- ... -insurance and to my astonishment got a quote for £236 on 10.000 miles and a £150 excess :o cant really see me beating that, cheapest iv had in donkeys years, was told Bongos are in the same catergory as the VW vans http://www.staveleyhead.co.uk/personal- ... -insurance
Just thought id forward the info which I got off the mazda bongo owners forum on Facebook

https://www.facebook.com/groups/2529055732/

I have a converted V6 and pay £211 with C&CC ..

They won't insure my V6 Alphard as it isn't converted .. so I got a quote from another Japanese import specialist .. £700 and I have been riding / driving for 56 blame free years ..!!

So I have re MOT'd / Taxed / insured the Bongo .. but may give those a call (if I can communicate as I am quite deaf) ..!!

Contact them and ensure they are aware its a grey import and the model is a 1995 onwards Bongo FRIENDEE,not the earlier model Bongo van.
There have been problems with this mixup in the past which has resulted in members actually not being insured when it was queeried. I think Saga was one of the companies that was involved

Definitely worth checking although their website says they cover imports, left hand drive and even self-build conversions. Not heard of them before but sound like they could offer some good deals.

Called them just now as I was very curious about the clause below, RE: The work bit
They never said I wouldn't be covered to and from work when I made the initial call, and their not budging on it saying they are basically classed as a second car / vehicle and only expected to be used a few days a week, so now iv got to cancel the policy in writing / Email as they cannot do it over the phone, odd that they could take my money over the phone  I am far from happy about this, but it is a lesson learned and a note to others to thoroughly check out your insurance as you might not be covered as much as you think, thanks for the heads up guys,

Now to go to the Facebook forum and tell the other guy to check up on his

I also had to query commuting. My ins company agreed that if I drove it to work on the odd occasion it was ok e.g. to fuel up or when going away straight from work. But the only evidence is on a call recording system somewhere.

To add insult ... they will most likely charge you a £25 cancellation fee .. plus short term policy use ..!!

I re insured mine today with C&CC .. the cancellation fee was mentioned in there 'terms & conditions' blurb ..

How would they know what you are using the bongo for, if something happened, you could be going, doing anything??

You should be within the cooling off period so I'd have though they ought to just charge you pro-rata number of days the policy was active.

^^^ The policy wasn't active until the 16th of June, plus you have 14 days to change your mind as such
