Removing fuel pump because of leak.

What's the MPG like? Can I use chip fat and veggie oil? What about LPG?

Removing fuel pump because of leak.

Post by highlandjen » Thu Feb 07, 2019 10:14 pm

I am new to bongos and mine is a ford freda. I have a diesel leak and was advised I need a new pump or refurb. They say they have to take the engine out and this is going to be £1000 . Is this right because I like my little freda but cant afford to spend all this on her. HELP PLEASE BONGO LOVERS!!!!!!!

Hi and welcome to the Forum. 8)

I've certainly never heard of the engine needing to come out to fix the fuel pump.

Certainly ADS, Aston Vale, Bristol, managed to fix mine without such drastic action.

I would be looking for a new, and Bongo Friendly, garage. A rough location will help someone recommend one.

The issue now is that the maximum it will rev to is around 1800 rpm

Did you manage to replace the fuel pump?

Also did you get the rev problem fixed? I have the same problem regarding unable to rev above 1200 rpm. I have changed the fuel filter which looked fine, no sludge, have used a biocide in the fuel tank in case it was a diesel bug, used injector cleaner additive but still no joy.

Wondering what to look at next. I'm convinced it's fuel starvation.... Fuel pump maybe?
