Query about wind-out awning
Hi all
New Bongo owner as of last week. Glad to have found this useful forum as I'm going to have a lot of questions I reckon. So, hello to all you other Bongoliers.
The van came with a wind-out awning. It was advertised as a Fiamma but the plates says YKK. Can someone confirm what the situation is please from the image? I have a question (or I will have when I get it out tomorrow) so would like to refer to it correctly. As it is Japanese am I right in thinking it was factory fitted? Many thanks!

Re: Query about wind-out awning
Hi, and welcome aboard.
I don't think Mazda fitted awnings as an option as very few were camper vans. Those that were had a small kitchen unit in the back, but standard seats.
However, it is plainly Japanese so may have been fitted by the original owner.

Thanks Bob
Is YKK a known brand? That's not the anglicised name for Fiamma is it?

Not sure, you tend to think of the brand as quality zip fasteners.

A Google produces this company with what looks like the same logo:
https://www.ykkap.com/
I guess awnings are related, but it does look a lot like a Fiama.

I had seen them in Google searches but because the Google result seemed unrelated I didn't actually click it. I think you're right, it's the same logo. Perhaps they got out of the Bongo accessory market...

Re: Query about wind-out awning
The problem we had has been resolved (we were just being thick) so actually the make is not an issue!
Thanks Bob and all who read the message. More questions to follow no doubt. Enjoy your weekend people

Re: Query about wind-out awning
Hi Ian, I stumbled across this thread after trying to find some sort of information on the awning I have. I recently purchased a van with this same awning, but for the life of me cannot figure out how to unwind it. I am not sure if the winding prod is broken or not or im missing something. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I cant seem to find any information elsewhere on this awning.
Thanks
Sammy
Thanks

Hi Sammy. That definitely looks like our awning. So you have the pole with the attachment on the end? After work I will go out and photograph ours and describe how it works. It just gets inserted and then you turn it but I can't remember which way

Hi Iain,
Yes I have the rod. But its in 2 parts and I can't seem to figure out how it stays together so I'm not sure if its missing a little pin or something or I'm just doing it wrong.
That would be absolutely amazing if you could have a look at yours when you get the chance and let me know.
Thanks so much

That definitely doesn't look like ours. Looks more like a leg? Will find out later. Hope you're enjoying the van otherwise.

Re: Query about wind-out awning
Okay, just been out to the van to photograph our pole. See pics. It goes into the hole on the right of the awning and then you turn it clockwise to wind it out. I hope that helps?

Re: Query about wind-out awning
Hi Iain,
Yes! That is what my rod looks like, however it is in 2 parts (hence my earlier photo) and doesn't seem to stay joined. I have a feeling there is a little pin or something missing out of it maybe as It just falls apart.
Unfortunately I've just left my van for 2 weeks so I will have to come back and tackle it again in 2 weeks time and see how I go. But at least now I know. I appreciate you doing that for me very much, thank you.
I will let you know how I get on.
Happy travels

Re: Query about wind-out awning
Our legs that come out when the awning is wound out are in two bits and we initially had issues with one of them coming apart. There is something there that locks them together. I can't wind it out currently to show what it is but if you can't see that bit it's probably missing I would guess. Good luck!
