Glass Fibre High Top

Post by helen&tony » Tue Aug 25, 2020 7:54 am

Hi
Well, the search comes up with all manner of things including stainless steel exhausts????....already got one, ta!....So....has anyone fitted a glassfibre high top to an AFT Bongo?...I fancy ditching my electric top in favour of a bath tub...Also, how are they fitted?....bonded, sticky fixers (LOL), rivets and bonded, or what?....I just fancy a ready-made area with a one-sided drop-down bed instead of the AFT
Thanks in advance
Helen

Hi Ian...
I've just written to them...I was wondering whether anyone had fitted one?....I remember Hayden fitted one as a removable item, but I wonder how they're fitted...I could get a local team to "do the dirty", and paint it myself
Cheers

Hi Ian
Well...That's that....they only supply to their fitters ...shame, really, as there are some pretty good-class fitters here...The local VW place has the cleanest, well-equipped workshop I've seen anywhere!...and there are new places springing up everywhere...
Cheers

Hi Ian...
I'll make that my first job this afternoon...write and inquire...If the're able to pass one over, I have a few contacts who can transport...I have a plan to drive to mid-France and back, (depending on visas after the brexible nonsense)I like the practicality of the ice-cream top...even the looks have grown on me...and IF the top is possible to get here, the next hurdle is KAT (dept of motor vehicles)....They're very strict....One owner brought a Bongo here, ditched the rear seats before coming, and it can't be registered here without the 8 seats!...They photograph the vehicle every MOT to ensure that it's the same car, and you wait while the computer verifies it!...No messing...in many traffic offences the police just remove your registration plates and you can't drive it!....They do that in other EU countries...so the old idea that you can drive back to the UK every year is a no- no, as you can't drive without re-registering after 6 months...I've heard that's 3 months in some countries...and after the brexible happening, fat chance without duty payable and export / import licences...ooooops!
Cheers

I think it's the New Dawn one Jilly has.

Very nice, too. :)

Hi
I've had a reply via New Dawn from Drivelodge, and as they have a referral, they can supply. They obviously have agreement to only supply to their dealers, which is very fair...so I'll thank them both today / tomorrow. Next step is to find out how to get permission to convert over here. I can't just turn up at the next certification at the vehicle technical test centre with a different "look", so once that's organised, it'll need to get specifications sent to the KAT testing office....that SHOULD ? be O.K. as I reckon I might have an "in"....we'll see. I cant get to the office 'till next month, as they are also the centre for Alien / immigration, and a lot of Bulgarians work around Europe, and are getting the new biometric ID cards sorted , as they've all come back here to get them done...NIGHTMARE!!!.. The next issue after that is that the roofs are for tintops, which have a different roof profile....HOWEVER, New Dawn have done them....I must inquire
So....nothing's easy, but a good challenge is a game...Transport shouldn't be an issue, and I have some folk in mind who do just that!
I'll keep you posted....Hopefully, there will be an AFT going cheap!
Cheers
