Differences in 'New Shape' Bongo?

Post by lucklesspedestrian » Sat Nov 17, 2018 4:50 pm

Hi

Looks like the quest to find a Bongo for my daughter may be nearly over. We've found a well cared for 2001 2.5V6 tintop that we will hopefully be able to secure next week. Obviously I'll post here with a report once we've got it.

I was just wondering, in all my Bongo research, I've never really seen a definitive listing of all the changes/differences between the 1995/1997 (facelift) Bongos and the post 1999 'new Shape' ones which obviously we look like we will be getting. Obviously the front grill and lights look different but can anyone either describe to me or point me in the direction of a list of the differences/changes please?

ta

The newer ones have twin airbags which some of the older ones don't. Steering wheel is different design to accommadate the bag. Some differences in the dash layout and the centre arm rest /cubby. But most looks similar, some parts are specific to the newer ones. I'm sure someone will have a definitive list.

Hope all goes well with the purchase - do post a photo (if you can work out how to do it) we like Bongo photos here

Wilipedia states AC and electric blinds become standard equipment, also there was obviously the 'new' engine i.e 2.0 petrol and the revised styling front and rear together with the 'aero' bodykit, grille, headlamps, fogs, rear lights, high level brake light, chrome trim and the badging? etc.

Ours has the AC but not electronic blinds so maybe still an option.

Thanks all, certainly doesn't seem to be much mechanical difference (engine/autobx etc) with the 2.5 V6 petrol tin top that we're hopefully about to buy. I'll be glad of the airbags though and I do prefer the more modern look of the 'new shape'.

Some engine differences too on the diesel. Lots of the engine parts have different part numbers anyway.

On the AFT models the new roofs open about a foot further so have a different tent.

We have a newer V6. The blinds make a "vrrr" warning sound when they reach top or bottom. The older shape doesn't have that 'refinement'. 😂
Allan's closed. We recommend PGS (Plymouth Garage Services) or Mayflower Auto Services in Plymouth.
