Bongo scam!

Post by lucklesspedestrian » Tue Oct 30, 2018 7:32 pm

Mentioned elsewhere that my daughter was looking for a Bongo

Found one which looked too good to be true on Gumtree i.e. 2002, lovely conversion, 44K miles, nearby in Aberdeen and all for under 5 grand!

The lack of seller details ( no name, partial phone number, selling for mother etc) got me suspicious and sure enough I found the same van on Ebay at a legitimate importers for a more believable price of exactly 10 grand more (the scammer had just pinched the pictures/details)

My daughter did contact the scammer and got a ridiculous sob story back via email about divorce, bad memories and then the meat of the scam i.e. nonsense about shipping/paypal etc etc

I let the legit seller know and he seemed genuinely grateful and contacted Gumtree to inform them but the scammer keeps putting the ad back up.

Okay, I can spot these things a mile off but it really annoys me that some poor schmuck might get taken in by this and lose money

It's a jungle out there!
