Removing Decals

Post by Stephen12 » Mon Mar 26, 2018 7:02 pm

Hi guys

New bongo owner here.

I'm trying to remove my decals as they are in bad shape and age the look of the vehicle. I'm having real issues getting them off. I've tried heat gun and toffee wheel and they are being a nightmare. Do you guys have any advice or suggestions?

This forum is great and I appreciate all the knowledgeable you guys have.

Thanks

Could they be laquered onto your body panels?

Hi
Thanks for the reply.
That could quite possibly be the answer as they are proving to be a nightmare. Any suggestions on the best way to get them off?
Thanks

In a word, well two...you can't.

Well you can but you risk severely damaging the paint and also the lacquer. Not sure which decals you are trying to remove? If you must a bodyshop will do it but it will cost £££'s as it will all need re-doing.

If you have to a craft knife around the edge of the decal and then try to peel it from the panel, then polish in and wax/or try and spray the lacquer back on....it won't look/match if you are a perfectionist.

Okay I'll give it a bit more work with the toffee wheel and heat gun and see how I get on. Think the process is just super time consuming.

Be careful you don't lift/bubble the paint
