Post by fordmill » Wed Mar 21, 2018 10:12 pm

Good evening bongoers,
Just dealing with the dreaded rear wheel arches on my 95 Freda, Can anyone give me advice on where's the best place to purchase rear wheel arch repair panels?

Cheers

They look the same as the panels I bought. I will let you how I get on in a few weeks. Used to welding up old Hondas, which are paper thin, so I'll manage.

I recall being told that the arches need an insert section welding in at their apex if they are to match the circumference of the original (and thus match up to / line up with the bumper). No doubt you're onto that but i mention it in case.

This is an animation showing the alignment - the wheel hub is used as reference and the two images show the before and fitted positions;

If you use the Merc arches it is advisable to do as you say,cut and weld in a fillet .

Take care.

Don't be mean to me, 😩

I'm well aware we probably paid a bit more than we should but shit happens, and the insides great. Just needs a bit of love.

Heres a link to how I did mine using merc arches. If you want to keep the right arch shape and keep the thickness of the dog leg at the sliding door right you need to put the insert about a third of the way up on the left portion of the arch.
I also let the panel in up behind the original quarter panel, its easier to level that way and the repair can be much tighter.
Good luck!

Hi all, I've got the dreaded arch problem...more of a problem at the base of the arch at the rear, where it meets the cill, then other side where the rear bumper meets it, looking for someone in the midlands to quote for both sides replacement and spray if anyone knows someone? Not up to this...... Thx in advance.
