Bongo Aero 2.0L DVD unit with rear parking camera

Post by AuldAlliance » Fri Dec 08, 2017 10:28 am

Hi folks,

Does anyone know if the newer head units in the 2.0L Aero Bongos (2012 -2016) can be rigged up for AUX input?

My vehicle has a factory screen with DVD player and rear parking camera but can't figure out if I can attach an MP3 player. I'd rather not rip the unit out as the parking camera is really useful.

Do you mean 2002 - 2006? I think most Bongos have a new after market head unit fitted as the radio frequency of the Japanese stock unit is different to Europe. If you have a photo of what you have fitted maybe someone can help. I was looking to install a Pumpkin double din unit that comes with its own review camera.

I doubt it very much. The reversing camera is very useful but when I had a new Pioneer double DIN unit fitted I hoped to connect the factory fitted camera to it. Although it was fitted by an auto electrician they couldn't get it to work. Good luck!

You can get a 'band expander' to allow reception of European radio stations on Jap-spec head units:

Without one fitted, you're pretty much limited to Radio 2. That might be a much easier option if you want 'choons' in your van (as I believe 'yoofs' call songs from the hit parade!!)

Nice one. Have been wondering how I was going to listen to Radio 4 for the last few weeks, most helpful.

The ones on Bridgwater Electronics website have different frequency ranges. If you scroll down the page there is a link to a 'help you choose' page.
As far as I can tell, their default recommendation does not cover Radio 3 or the lower end of the Radio 4 frequencies. However, it looks as if their BC12 model does.

Yes I meant 2002-2006. Here's the head unit in question:
