RAC and the diesel debate

Post by mikeonb4c » Thu Oct 12, 2017 11:56 pm

Just had an email newsletter from RAC:

https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/emissions/diesels

Under the 'what can I do to help' section, I particularly liked finally reading that
You can also think about where and when you drive. High levels of pollution are predominantly (but not exclusively) a problem in city centres, so changing your route to avoid entering future ultra-low emission and Clean Air Zones may well make a difference.
Excellent. I didn't buy a Bongo to head into town anyway, so my diesel horse is right for my rural course. \:D/ \:D/

Lets please work to get the OTT hysterical arguments against diesel into some reasonable balance. [-o< [-X

Interesting article Bill.

Totaly agree with your thoughts, I very rarely drive in any city, and certainly not through choice.

Driving in a city or big town is not pleasant and I doubt many do this by choice in a Bongo. In fact I generally avoid driving the Bongo unless we are using it for its purpose or it needs a sensible and periodic 3 weekly "maintenance winter run out". Don't want to risk it getting crashed into etc. using it to go down the shops etc.

I have a really old 20 y.o. petrol car for that, runs very nicely though.

Of course I appreciate some use their as a sole vehicle.

Quite right bb123, though my diesel is my only car. But no pollution been caused building a replacement for it in 22 years. I do 4k miles a year, hardly ever in cities, and i've flown once in 15 years. So, lately, i've not been polluting hugely muchly :D 8)

And let's remember that for many of us Bongy provides our holiday accomodation.

No overheated/over air conned hotels, riding up and down in lifts, staff driving to work to entrtain our every whim...

A tap and a tank for the simple life. :D

Hi,

So the RAC in their wisdom advise avoiding these areas, which makes me ask a rather obvious question - who is the bigger planet killer, the one who drives a few miles through an LEZ or the one who does 3 times the mileage avoiding it bearing in mind that every other driver is also avoiding it so the chosen route is just as congested.
