Bongo failed MOT :(

Post by sotal » Fri Jun 30, 2017 8:10 pm

Not overly surprised but still not great.

Failed on some rust on the rear cross member within 30cm of the towbar

Failed on the horn not working

Failed on the offside ball joint on the wishbone (I changed the nearside wishbone a couple of months ago!)

Failed on an ARB dustcover

So welding needed, wishbone needed, horn contacts need cleaning and something needs to be done to fix the dust cover.

I imagine that will cost a good few hundred and nothing in that is covered by the 3 year warranty!

Bongo all sorted now, a few hundred quid less in my pocket though :(

Only thing left now is to replace the leisure battery and to finish repainting the roof rack. Then we will be ready for camping again!

Luckily the other car passed it's mot straight off today, was almost in the position of having neither on the road!

know that one
I take 2 on the same day (not to waste too much time) been using same test house for 20 yrs and they don't take the piss, if one is bad the second will have lots of advisories, never 2 bad. But the 3rd on its own 6 month later " only one today", time to scrap this one!
well not exactly the same each year, but don't be frightened of taking 2 the same day allows you to get back for a Saturday breakfast and wait 5hrs for the bill.

I was expecting a fail from the second car to be honest.

Last year it had loads of advisories but passed straight off. I haven't touched any of them and this year it passed with just one advisory which was the tread on one tyre starting to get low.

The bongo took a bit to get through though, had to borrow a car to get by whilst it was being fixed. Don't think it would have been easy to borrow two cars!
