Virus Malware Be aware

Post by Eratosthenes » Tue Sep 15, 2020 11:21 am

I renewed my insurance with "2gether insurance" and I was requested to send proof of mileage and membership with Bongo Fury etc, which I did.

Last night I received an email with attachment from what appeared to be the insurers.

The attachment should not be opened - it contains a virus. I contacted the insurers an they confirmed they have a virus on their system which is doing this and their IT guys are currently trying to sort it. So if you receive something similar don't open the attachment which is disguised as a windows doc file and named Invoice.

Well done you for your vigilance and for bringing it to our attention. Shame on your insurance company though if they are aware of a virus in their system and still mailing out without warning their customers.

Shocking news, in that case they have been rooted and everyone's details have already been stolen and will be sold on, ian, maybe a good idea to remove the advert that links to them (404 by the way)

Internet security isn't just installing an anti virus, it's a way of life, I've had a UK based large security company trying to hack me, when I phoned them and asked what their game was they didn't know they were attacking me, clever security people you are...they didn't like that, even once proof was supplied they still denied everything, when I told the boss the system you're renting is rooted they hung up, I called back telling them there actions result in all of the IPs involved are now blacklisted.
Nominet responsible for.UK domains, had to phone them too, managerwas helpful, scanned office for heads at computers and found the culprit as we spoke...
Virgin media, constantly trying to hack it's customers, proof here if anyone wants it, the CEO isn't interested in my report!
Microsoft, what a joke, they are also on the list, and they ignore abuse@ reports too

Bottom line is, you can't trust anyone, get gened up on methods of protection and look after yourself, lots of companies have popped up charging for the data needed to help protect you, I'm giving it away for free because I feel everyone is getting ripped off. Quite funny, hackers are trying so hard to take my list down, best of luck there.

Hi plonkatronix,

Thanks for the very informative reply.
Some of the details I find quite alarming to say the least!
I am no IT expert but do take the security seriously.
I forwarded the mail to phising.gov.uk and was advised
they had a backlog of 1.2 million reports! So I guess nothing
will happen there.

@Eratosthenes, alarming is an understatement, the mrs and kids have been in and witnessed most conversations, I've spent years designing and programmed my own defences which works damn well, now all i do is sit back and watch data patterns (friend's say it looks like matrix screens).
This project has attracted so much attention from both white and black hat's, even the people who host my servers are also very interested so I must be doing something right ;)

Disturbing news. I am with 2gether and have been for many years. I have also, for many years, been receiving highly unwelcome calls on my mobile (a number i never knowingly agree to be given out and used). Its always a girl with an Essex'y accent who starts with "Hello. We've been told you was in an accident that wasnt your fault." When I say I wasnt and I ask where they got my number from, they put the phone down. Hmmm. Discuss?

And thanks for flagging this up. =D>
