Re: First non start for a long while...

Thanks peeps, I heard zero when I turned the ignition. Until I cycled through the gear shifter (although that might have made zer difference to whether it started after a little wait.) I will be honest I would not be able to take a start motor off, I just remember that long ago my brothers used to h...

First non start for a long while...

Was temporarily stuck in the supermarket car park but got her going ! Gulp. Started fine on the way, when I started I think I saw a glow plug light go dim, I was not super focussed on that though as panic immediately set in when it did not start imediately. I had a multimeter and read 12.31V - suppo...

Re: 3M headlight restoration kit purchased

Good tip Winstille. Before doing Bongo maintenance I like to take things in a bit and get a close look. The problem is less so frosting that you sometimes see on those oval looking lenses from classic 90's cars but more of a slight varnishing / oxidization with a distinct border, which is uneven. Th...

Re: 3M headlight restoration kit purchased

I have had an MOT where they gave them a rub, on another vehicle though, but not extensive restoration. It has never come up at MOT presumeably as enough light comes from the lower 50pct in the correct pattern. I am preempting a fail on that which might beyond a rub. The toothpaste suggestion is alw...

3M headlight restoration kit purchased

I will let you know how I get on. I did see it was mentioned to read the instructions through a few times before starting which I have. Going to try and give it a go this week given reasonable weather. Seems logical, start coarse then get finer and finer, water spary bottle, then use a foam pad and ...

Re: AFT open close switch trouble

Super duper switch cleaned, was slightly varnished on 1 contact particularly, servisol and a little gentle scrape and working first time again. Many thanks Geoff. Also coming down smooth after the little spray of PTFE. Very satisfied with that little job, takes the worry about it not coming back dow...

Re: AFT open close switch trouble

Thanks, good to know, I always do ours by hand, now if I realized they were automatic that really would be something after 9 years  Have not seen any switches where are the blind switches if installed ?

AFT open close switch trouble

I am having trouble with the AFT open/close switch, specifcially close. The last 3 times we used the roof it takes 3 presses to close, opening is fine, opens first time. (more recently, today, 12 times !) Fairly sure it is the close switch and not local cancel as it does eventually go after press 3 ...

Re: Rust too bad?, should i walk away?

Go there with a big screw driver and tap quite firmly all the way through those sections with the owners permission. The seller, if they are a straight up invididual should be ok with it. Then you know they are an ok person, and they know the truth about what they are selling. No one sensible wants ...

Bongo Blasphemy

In 7-10 years I may be looking for a second hand motor home, reliable but budget something we can stand up in, certainly no rush but wondered what might be about. I see these electric brand new ones that look fab but I guess cost an absolute fortune. (or it gives an impression of an eletric anyway a...

Hi Ian, I am very very sorry to hear this. No words will help. I wish you and your family the best that can be and you can only take
it an hour at a time. We have never met in person but I know you seem like a great guy. So sorry to hear this.

Re: Rust, the on going saga....

1.5 hours later, removed rust, coat 1 on the pillars (holes there would likely fail MOT), sill rust spot POR15'd and "Waxoyl clear" drench on the front crossmember to seal for winter. On the For Freda at least (not sure about Mazda version) under the bonnet the front grill has a huge gap 6...

Re: The worry of getting a rust bucket is proving too strong.

All old vehicles rust VW, Mazda whatever. I run a 26 y.o. I could punch the arches all day, solid and sealed off. Every year I determined what was best and did mine again this year. If you have non perforated surface rust (i.e no holes) you can do a hell of a lot yourself. As mentioned you would nee...
