Re: Re-routing the rear heater vent pipes for diy conversion

I routed the hot outlet up & over the fridge. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hDjLCdQTV2M/S-_gROPDaHI/AAAAAAAALoY/nuTakuxV-KsU7WsdfubhACTAA8VuZSbCQCCo/s640/IMG_1420.JPG and fed it out through a wee wooden vent. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-nVMwaNJaTic/TM856g5Ax6I/AAAAAAAALdo/Wi5CsHzbZRk...

Re: Urgent advice required re: rear brake disc removal

There was a write-up on the now defunct Wiki. I don't have a copy of that to hand, but the process is relatively straightforward: Jack up, remove wheel, etc. Remove caliper and caliper carrier Un-wind the handbrake adjuster - this may be where your OH is hitting a problem. The handbrake is a small d...

Re: Alternator/fan/aircon belt change

I hadn't realised (remembered!) that Ian had used my "how to change the water pump" in a factsheet. It seems that the instructions are in the wrong sheet.

Ignore all the references to waterpump and its pulley!

Re: 4W ABS light

This also comes on if you have defective brake lamps - or if you replace them with LED ones. It might also be wired to the brake fluid level sensor (can't remember if this is the case, but worth checking)

Re: ABS \ 4WD light constantly on

LED Stop bulbs will cause this too, so if you have fitted them, try normal bulbs to see if that's the issue.

Re: reversing front seats and replaceing the seat itself

To access the drivers side of the engine when the seat can't be tipped back because of a conversion, the advice is commonly to unbolt the seat, suggesting that simply sliding the seat out from its runners is not an (easy) option. It's not an option at all with a side conversion, as there's no space...

Brake Pipes - What size?

I got an advisory on a recent MOT for surface corrosion on the brake pipes across the rear axle. Planning to replace them, but struggling to work out what size pipe they are (were!). They measure up at 4.2mm or 0.172" (ish). Are they supposed to be the usual 3/16" ? (0.1875") And 10mm...

Re: A slight twist to the "bleeding method"

I gave my van a precautionary bleed using a rig like this (Shameless copy, as promised!). Excellent idea. One big advantage is that the valve makes it all so much more controllable. Once you get towards the end of a "jug at the bottom, filling up" part of the cycle, close the tap, move the...

Re: New to Bongonia, a steering question

By running with the same size all round are you not actually introducing a minor problem for the gear box to deal with? The recommended sizes although different, actually have the same overall rolling radius, so you can happily swap to all-4-the-same configuration without inducing a problem which i...

Unusual - Before you get the alignment checked, have the lower balljoints checked - not just visually, but with a pry bar to see if there is play in them.

Re: New to Bongonia, a steering question

Balance and/or spigot rings as mentioned above are likely to be the culprit. You may be able to rule out the tyres by swapping fronts to rears and see if the symptoms change? Currently smaller fronts will mean that the VC is trying to slow them down as they are pushed round quicker than the rears to...

Re: Fitting remote central locking / alarm

Fit it all inside the door - there is a permanent live in there already. Means that the remote fob range isn't great, as the receiver is inside the metal door. You can fit the solenoid at the lover rear corner of the door, there are some handy mounting holes already there IIRC, and then link a verti...
