Hoping to take the Bongo to Orkney in a couple of weeks.
Has anyone been?
Any tips would be greatly received. We're hoping to wild camp and have the odd night on a site.

Re: stewby's snapshot of scotland...
We spent 10 days travelling from Barra to Skye through Uist, Harris and Lewis a few years ago, best holiday ever. We didn't have an awning but did wild camp with a Quechua pop up and had no problems at all. Our favourite wild camp was on North Uist: https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&...

Re: Kayaking at the Bash
The river is quite low at the moment, the rowers from the rowing club at Bewdley were on the river last night. There's two pubs and a cracking chip shop next to the river in Bewdley, and if you paddle a bit further you will reach Arley which is lovely. http://www.webcams.travel/webcam/1272650874-Wea...

Re: Ignoring the wild camping aspect are campsites too expen
A couple of years ago we made the decision to pay no more than £10 a night on a campsite. As we were are C&CC members, we started using their CS sites and have found some absolutely cracking sites, and stayed within our £10 a night budget (mostly with ehu). Admittedly, most of the sites have bee...

Re: awning advice please
We have cut our figure of eight into shorter pieces as it is easier to store in the Bongo, or the awning bag. Ours clips off the rail fairly easily, maybe it has just become easier over time. Sorry, can't help with that particular awning but I know from experience that it gets easier to put one up w...

Re: bourton on the water
I can't recommend it as I've yet to stay there but this is another site close to Bourton; http://cotswoldfarmpark.co.uk/camping/ Might be worth looking up too! :) Stayed here a few times, but not for a while. Lovely and peaceful, and great for younger children with lots going on at the the farm park.

Re: Awnings??
We've had a khyam motordome sleeper for several years and it's had plenty of use. Overall it is a great awning for longer trips, we use a couple of quechua base pop-ups for shorter breaks. The only slight issue with the khyam is that there is no overhanging canopy over the doors so if it is wet wate...

Re: Coolbox - Iceytrek or Coleman xtreme
Going back to basics, had enough of electric coolboxes that last barely a year (and need EHU). Anyone used either the iceytrek or coleman xtreme coolbox? Are they as good as they sound? Thanks! :D http://www.coolboxesuk.co.uk/range/ http://www.coleman.com/Products/8581/xtremereg-coolers Iceytrek ar...

Re: Dirty French police !!
Many years ago we were pulled over by French police just after crossing from Spain into France. They virtually emptied our van onto the equivalent of the hard shoulder, presumably looking for something illegal (we were in a self converted transit and we looked slighlty 'new-age' ). They found ...

Re: Glen Brittle campsite on Skye
Looks fabulous, how were the midges?? Got bitten to death last time we are on Skye. We didn't find the midges in the camp site itself too bad, we were camped up on the field and there's usually a bit of a breeze blowing so that helps a lot. It was a different story however when my husband Donald su...
