Revving in Park
Just had a slight issue where whenever I put the bongo in P the revs would increase to about 1500-1800rpm. Put it back in drive and it would drop below 1000 to what I would say was normal. Is there any normal reason for this? Related things I can thing of... I've recently had to replace ATF fluid af...

Re: Rough start but then no problem at all
Check for a slight leak at the diesel pump, you'll notice a little dampness around it if it is leaking slightly. My theory is when they start to leak here it lets air in and the longer it is left the more air goes in. It then needs full throttle to push enough fuel through whilst cranking for a good...

Re: Interested in becoming a bongonaut
Fair enough, I wouldn't class the diesel as fast or powerful, just capable! The 2L just felt under powered. Admittedly I didn't go far, but it felt like it would struggle up a hill, or if you just needed a little bit of power to get out of the way of danger etc. The diesel can suffer from more expen...

Re: Interested in becoming a bongonaut
Out of interest, what makes you fancy the 2l petrol? When I was looking, it was lowest down my list. I test drove one and it felt really under powered. The diesels are a simple enough engine, they just have a couple of quirks that you need to know about. With a low coolant alarm and a bit of knowled...

Re: Interested in becoming a bongonaut
Not wanting to put off but you say you have "no car or mechanical knowledge", I'd be cautious with any vehicle of this age. You need to have some knowledge or you need to be very friendly with a mechanic or it could get expensive quickly. Ours has been relatively reliable given its age but...

Lost keys
We've not used the bongo as much in the last six months. I recently MOT'd it and have been using it twice a week since. However with Christmas getting in the way it wasn't used for a week or so. I came to use it on Thursday and the keys weren't were I left them 🙄 Annoyingly the keys were left with t...

Re: Solar panels for charging 12v battery
Just wanted to update to say it is all setup and working now. The wife is very happy with it as she can see what she is doing without just using the light of a head torch! Time will tell how well the solar panel works. I couldn't mount it in the optimal direction easily without raising it up and bui...

Re: Immobilising Bongo to prevent theft (waiting on TOAD unit to be fitted)
I remember when I was moving some circuits over to the leisure battery, that when one of the fuses was removed the dash didn't come in and then it wouldn't start. Can't quite remember which though. Fairly easy to get round though, but might slow them down I guess. Disklok over the steering wheel is ...

Re: Wishbone ball joint nut
I managed to get a proper one at a slightly extortionate price, but at least it is sorted.
I'm pretty sure it was a standard M18 thread though. Not a size I usually keep in.

Screenshot_2021-12-20-09-02-04-044_com.android.chrome~2.jpg These are the pins that I would be connecting. (Not at the same time though) - blue one for ABS codes. I never managed to get a test LED to work but there is a light in the dash on the bongo that flashes the codes out to you, so I found th...

Re: Diagnostics.
Frustrating as it is, Japan never did become part of the OBDII process. From 1996 all cars built for the US had to have OBDII. Europe followed suit into the early 2000s. But these bongos are imports so even now Japan doesn't have to use OBD2 on cars sold in their own market. OBD2 is a basic set of d...

Re: Diagnostics.
Mine is a 1996 2.5TD 4x4 and it wasn't that I couldn't understand the flashes, the actual wiring didn't match mine and so I couldn't actually connect as it said. I am not aware of any issues at present and if anything were to come up I was going to get the mechanic who gave me the cable to have a l...

Re: Diagnostics.
Forscan is designed for ford vehicles. It works fine in this country and gives much greater detail than plain OBD2 but only on compatible Ford vehicles. It won't work on the bongo. I don't think the adapter cable will be of any use to you, the car simply doesn't have the computer to communicate with...

Re: Diagnostics.
As said above, that is just a dumb adapter cable.
Forscan cables are just standard elm327 cables with a switch to flip a couple of the pins over. They plug into USB and then into the OBD2 sockets (the other end of your cable).
