Re: selling sites for mazda bongo

The low cost/no cost option is on Bongo Fury: http://igmaynard.co.uk/for-sale/ but there's also eBay, GumTree and Autotrader but they can seem to attract some of the time wasting/tyre-kicking type of person.

Re: Won't start

It could the the diesel stop valve on the injector pump although they more commonly seem to fail in the open position so the engine won't switch off. Plenty of fuel in the tank, not got a dodgy fuel gauge earth?

Re: Quick release steering wheel?

I think Helen is your best bet on this on as I seem to recall she has done this. Not sure where you might stand regards MOT and insurance as the general rule seems to be that if a safety feature like an airbag is fitted at manufacture, then it should remain in place.

Re: Safe max EHTemperature?

Welcome to the forum :). The location of the sensor will have a big effect on what readings you get as will how much stuff you're carrying around and the general condition of the cooling system. No two Bongos seem to read exactly the same so what you're really interested in is what is normal for you...

Re: My Shocking Bongo

You need rubber pants :). I've never had any static problems in nearly 10 years of Bongo ownership. In the olden days, you'd often seen cars with conductive rubber strips fitted to metal rear bumpers to prevent build up of static but either the composition of tyres has improved or people have stoppe...

Re: Parts No Longer Available

I've previously got some O rings for the rear evaporator from a really good A/C chap who I think was in Nottingham. If you do source alternatives, make sure they are correctly rated for the refrigerant rather than the type you can buy from DIY shops which just aren't up to the job.

Re: Maintenance

The comment in the article about looking for oil in the header tank as being a sign of head gasket failure might be true for many vehicles but I've never heard of any Bongos exhibiting that symptom.

Re: Drive Away Awning

A couple of shorter strips may be easier to sneck into place as well as store inside the van. I had to cut mine into 3 sections to fit round the pullout awning brackets fitted to the gutter and that worked fine with a Kyham Motordome awning.

Re: headlights fade when switched on.

There is system fitted in Japan that dims the dipped beams when in slow traffic. I think it's something to do with all the smog they get over there. Typically there would be an extra switch somewhere to control it. Perhaps this has just been knocked or pressed when they tried to find the switch for ...

Re: Sliding door contact pins seal

I think the switch that determines if it's closed is in the latch mechanism at the rear of the door which is tricky to get to. You could try cleaning the metal contacts as it can't hurt.

If you go for that one, don't forget to press the test button everytime you turn the ignition on....

Re: 2.0L misfire

I believe it's a carbon canister which is part of the fuel vapour control system. Unless there is a leak in one of the hoses then it probably won't cause you any issues.

Re: 2.0L misfire

Could be a problem with injectors, ignition timing, crank position sensor, MAF sensor or in-tank fuel pump. Does it do it at any particular engine speed? How clean is the air filter? Anything happen round about the time that the problem first occurred?

Re: headlight issue

I helps to know what year your Bongo is. For example, if it's 2001/ 2002 onwards it could be HID headlamps where you have a separate ballast unit to generate the high voltage required: http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j221/simonjones99/Forum%202012/IMAG0513.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j22...
