Re: Leaking Gearbox Seal

Pan gaskets should ALWAYS be fitted DRY especially if they are cork/rubber which some aftermarket gaskets for these are. The correct type is a impregnated 'cardboard' type material which can be re-used if no replacement is available but I would always recommend using a new one - not cork rubber thou...

Re: Flashing Hold Light, Only Changing Up on Very High Revs

Jimmo62 post earlier in this thread clearly shows how to get the code(s) out, but seems to have been completely ignored.

Without a code(s) its all just guessing I'm afraid & you will be lucky to fix it going about it like this.

Re: Auto problem

Check the oil for colour & smell, if it smells burnt then the high gear clutch has failed & you are into a rebuild or a replacement 2nd hand unit (with all the risks it carries). The two common (& it isn't that common) reasons for the Bongo transmissions to fail are for high clutch failu...

Re: Gearing issues

Could be coincidence but may not be. Don't assume it is. If it were here we would rig up a signal monitor (a series of LED's) on the shift solenoid wiring at the transmission end to see what the ECU is commanding. If it is commanding the solenoids to switch in the correct order then you issue is in ...

Re: Flashing Hold Light, Only Changing Up on Very High Revs

Unless I am going blind I can't see anyone has got the fault code(s) yet? There is no point in speculating as to what the issue is, you MUST read the fault codes then you will know which area to look in, either speed sensor/wiring or TPS/wiring I would guess. There are 16/17 different reasons why th...

Re: Warm up time and holding the gears

19-444 is a range switch, it tells the ECU what you want the gearbox to do, i.e. D, 2, L etc. It also acts as an inhibitor switch to only allow starting in P & N & also a rev light switch. It is unlikely to be this issue as I have never heard of a Bongo one giving a problem. There are differ...

Re: Gearing issues

So you have taken you gearbox out & tried it in another vehicle since this problem began & it worked OK? If so then it would look like an ECU issue to me. Just because there are no faults shown doesn't mean the transmission ECU is OK as they are rarely able diagnose themselves, if it were wi...

Re: Bad gear change

Electrics CANNOT cause a no drive situation. Fact. All the electrics do is make it change gear & control the pressure the transmission runs at. If you have no drive then the transmission has an issue, it is either a duff unit - always a risk when fitting 2nd hand - or the pump has been broken wh...

Re: My 4x4 Auto Gearbox failed recently on my 2.5 Diesel Bon

Hi Mike Yes still got her. Not used a huge amount - & she is suffering as a result - but I am off to Cardiff (towing of course!) to spend 3 nights in her. Just doing some catch-up maintenance, new rear silencer box (AGAIN) that doesn't fit  CV joint gaiter plus the usual. Hope you are doin...

Re: My 4x4 Auto Gearbox failed recently on my 2.5 Diesel Bon

It sounds to me like your geartrain has broken up withing the transmission & will need replacing. Not uncommon on Bongo's - especially with the increased load of towing a caravan. Transmission will need a complete rebuild or replacement, as others have suggested, with a used (but of course unkno...

Mode button doesn't alter where the air comes out.

My poor old Bongo suffers from lack of use & recently I noticed the heater/cooling air only comes out of the dashboard vents. No matter where I set the mode button, it still exits through the dash vents. Not good in chilly wet weather! The mode display changes as it should & when you put it ...

Re: Auto Trans Fluid...

Gaskets are NOT expensive unless you go OE. Around £6.00 if you wan't the type as fitted from new or around £3.00 for a cork/rubber style. Both prices are + p & p & plus vat.

Re: Central locking not working - ideas please

The l/b was probably flat but with the engine running (drove it for about 8 miles) the l/b powered circuits are working so I know that is being charged & doing its job. No 4 fuse is the green 30amp as described & is OK. I don't have a key fob, only a key. Someone suggested the relays go bad,...

Central locking not working - ideas please

I have just got the Bongo out of mothballs to get ready to sell it, new battery & all is well - sort of. The central locking no longer works - it was fine when last used but now does nothing when the key is turned. Fuse is OK (fuse no 4 according to the info I have). 1998 2.5d 4x4 Freetop. Any i...
