Re: Transmission problem - erratic revs , sounds like stalling?

I think you need to get your vehicle to someone who can sort the engine issue out - it shouldn't smell of fuel. I suspect if this is done the the shifting issues may well disappear.

Re: Transmission not selecting drive intermittantly

I am assuming the oil level is being checked correctly - engine running in Park? If OK I would be surprised if it were a solenoid issue causing this issue, is the same in D & R? If only in D then it isn't a oil level issue. It's an unusual fault but solenoid issues tend (but not exclusively) to ...

Re: Bongo acting up - help

From the description of the fault it is clear it never was the gearbox. Its a shame I have only just seen this thread. Your description of the the fault in your first post describes perfectly an engine VERY down on power. I will try to explain. In simplistic terms an auto transmission needs to know ...

Re: Auto gear selector problem

I'm surprised no one has suggested changing the oil! It sound as if the range switch is either u/s or out of adjustment if you are confident the the cable is adjusted correctly. The range switch (it does more than just start in gear inhibit) is responsible for telling the computer which gear you hav...

Re: Replaced mazda bongo autobox but got no drive help please?

Yes unbolted and removed with the box then bolted torque converter back up and then slotted gearbox back on Then you have quite possibly smashed the pump when fitting it. The converter must ALWAYS be fully installed into the gearbox BEFORE fitting to the engine. A quick measure to ensure the conver...

Code read it before you do anything. Details elsewhere on this site. Waste of time doing anything without reading codes.

Re: Change transmission fluid

Just a quick point referring to cmm303 post. If you do use a cork/rubber gasket DO NOT oil it when fitting, this only encourages it to 'squidge out' as you tighten the bolts. They must always be fitting with everything bone dry.

Re: Change transmission fluid

Above advice all good, but just remember when refilling to check the level with the dipstick, engine running in park & use a quality oil, not cheap s##t. I would guess it will take 4-5 litres to refill it but others on here may know better - we always fill from a pump so my lads don't always know...

Re: Auto won't change up past 3/4 gear

Could be a faulty TPS as Mike says but they normally set a code. If it was out of adjustment it could make it late but but I wouldn't have thought it would stop it changing into 4th.

Re: Turbo Boost Hiss

Almost certainly a leak on the pressure side circuit somewhere, typically a split hose. You need to check all the hoses & pipes from the turbocharger, down to the intercooler & from the intercooler to the inlet manifold. I will lay money one is split of coming off a pipe. It is of course the...

Re: Auto won't change up past 3/4 gear

The HOLD light will only flash if there is an electrical problem, as I have stated numerous times on here before, it will not pick up on mechanical/hydraulic faults. If you have a fault with a gearbox operation changing the oil will not 'heal it up' any more than changing the engine oil will cure an...

Re: Automatics and rolling backwards ....

It isn't so much 'fluid drag' that makes an auto creep but the fact the torque converter is trying to do its job & connect the engine to the gearbox. It acts as a sort of pump forcing oil from the engine side (i.e. the casing that is bolted to the engine drive plate) - the impeller, to its oppos...

Re: Flashing hold light

I do Mike. It doesn't get used a lot & suffers as a result sadly as it lives outside. I tax it for the summer (I always use in to go to Cardiff boating in August) & it may be doing Scotland again this year (always towing) but, unless it snows, I SORN it for the winter. The biggest frustratio...

Re: Flashing hold light

I am more than happy to help on here, however I rarely do these day due to the amount of 'armchair experts' that post rubbish & then contradict an informed opinion based on 38 years working solely with automatics. I'm afraid it is quite normal with the internet, the correct info is out there, yo...
