Re: abonarmal 1st to 2nd gear change. 2.0 petrol autobox

Difficult one to diagnose over the ether, judder on pull away (assuming it is the gearbox not prop/driveshaft) is normally the forward clutch starting to slip, which can get worse as 2nd engages. When you say it revs up, is it driving or slipping? We are based in the South East, at Hailsham, just no...

Re: Bongo acting up - help

Update for you all. We got stunews' s Bongo in here & it was, as thought clearly not a trans issue. We checked the pump fuel filter - clean, put fuel in it as it was showing none (guage not working) only for the engine to stop completely 1/2 mile later necessitating a short tow back to work. We ...

Re: Replacing ATF metal pipes

No bleeding required. Fit them then start it up then just check your transmission oil level with the engine running in park. Top up as required, don't overfill, set it to the bottom mark when its cold then check again when hot using the top mark on the dipstick.

Re: Gear box

Waste of time checking oil level for THIS fault, oil quality maybe (is it black & smells burnt?), as the transmission is electronically controlled so you need to be looking at fault codes etc. I assume to HOLD light comes on & off with the button & it isn't on all the time? If it is it w...

Re: Auto gearbox won't go into 1st

There may be more than one type, we may possibly have a used one but I would need good pictures of the switch, loom, connectors etc to be able to i.d. it. Others may know more about the switch than me as we don't see that many Bongo's. They can be knows as range switch, range selector switch, multi ...

Re: Auto gearbox won't go into 1st

I assume the oil level is being checked with the engine running in park? There could be a clue in the light not illuminating. You may have an issue with the range switch mounted on the outside of the transmission. This switch tell the computer which gear you have selected so it knows what to do, it ...

Re: Squealing noise

I had a nightmare sorting a squealing noise once on mine. Drove to Falmouth & back from Eastbourne with it driving me mad. Would stop for a while then start again. Put it into a garage down there but nothing could be found, never did find out if they ever experienced it though. I found it after ...

Re: Gearbox fault diagnosis

It doesn't sound as if you have an issue at all. The transmission has 4 gears & a lockup clutch in the torque converter. On a typical cold start it will shift 1 - 2 - 3 then hold third until a certain engine temp is reached when 4th engages. It will then wait until the temperature gets higher st...

Re: Gearbox of Death

I am afraid you have cooked the forward clutch by driving it when it was slipping due to the low oil level & it is now seized on permanently, hence it now drives forwards in neutral. It can't reverse because forwards is on as well so it is locked. Sorry but you are looking at a rebuild or anothe...

Re: Transmission Control Unit or ECU

Why definitely gearbox? Garage cleared codes but cannot remember what they were ? Extraordinary - use a different, professional, garage in future. It gets to the top of revs range, seems to be restricted and then changes with a bang. All fault codes were cleared, it ran for 3 hours and now no power ...

Re: jumping out of gear

Dropping out of hear on cornering, pulling away & braking etc. are common symptoms of low oil level but will always be much more noticeable when vehicle is cold as the oil level naturally rises when it gets hot. Of course in this instance he clearly didn't have low oil level at the start of the ...

Re: Transmission not selecting drive intermittantly

It is possible you have an internal hydraulic leak/word deformed seals/crack. If you have a hydraulic leak somewhere on the forward clutch apply circuit it may work OK when the oil is cold it is thicker, as it all warms up it thins down. If a crack these can open up with expansion when hot.
