Re: V6 Head Gasket, Coolant loss, Idling

UPDATE Steve found the Distributor "out of position so wound it back" (I think he said). It ran much better over 20km, no misfiring. He then looked at CAMBELT, in case it had jumped disturbing Distributor (which had not been removed on replacing Cap+Rotor). It had jumped 2 teeth, with hand...

Re: V6 Head Gasket, Coolant loss, Idling

Thanks again for all your thoughts and input! (Lovely photos Mike, I hope my wagon will giddy-up again soon ...) Just to clarify my rambling saga: Steve @OUTBACK is working on it, sourcing parts no issue. All the daft questions are mine, not his :-) It was MO'S who did not seem confident, even getti...

Re: V6 Head Gasket, Coolant loss, Idling

UPDATE: - MO's were unable to source a Radiator from their usual supplier, so kindly did not charge me at all. (Be advised my experience is they seem comfortable only with routine servicing of Bongos these days?) - My Bongo was recovered by OUTBACK AUTOS (Kings Lynn) a week later, having found no pr...

Re: V6 Head Gasket, Coolant loss, Idling

Thanks for replies.
Novice (me) may have misunderstood what John@MO's is saying (he has a V6 Vectra himself  )
I hope I'm not going to have to get it recovered elsewhere, eg back to ANDY'S.

Assuming MO's quote a few £'00 to replace RADIATOR, that sounds ok as next move ie not a waste?

Re: V6 Head Gasket, Coolant loss, Idling

MO's mechanic kindly rang me: - they cannot read ECU FAULT CODES, as they can't plug into the non-UK diagnostic port (not DL-16) - (if I understood this) they don't have tools to hold-in-sync/reinstate 4 belts that run off Cambelt - it is misfiring slightly, consistent with coolant in cylinders They...

V6 Head Gasket, Coolant loss, Idling

I'm still desperate for wise advice, since news below, following on from my earlier topics: Coolant loss: http://igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=69137 Idling issue, cuts-out: http://igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=68973 MO'S MOTORS (Fenstanton) have now done a...

Re: V6 Coolant leak, Cylinder Head blown, how can I tell?

One more question ...
Behind the Radiator, above what may be the ?Banjo Filter, there's a big AIR DUCT assembly.

Mine lifts off quite easily, is this normal?
It also has a LEVER setting, can someone tell me which setting to use, as my Japanese is not so good :)

Re: V6 Coolant leak, Cylinder Head blown, how can I tell?

So after 2 days parked-up +drying-out ... - I checked the OIL, both in the Filler Cap also Dipstick, it is golden, no evidence of water/gunk - COOLANT Expansion level shows below LOW, by the same height that FULL is above it :( http://s16.postimg.org/85uap5qmt/Bongo_Coolant_Leak.jpg - Trying to find...

Re: V6 Coolant leak, Cylinder Head blown, how can I tell?

Thank you so far, folks!

Gasy, looks like you are in Peterborough? (45 mins from me).
Which Bongo-savvy garage do you use please?
(Only one close to me seems to be mobile outfit in MK, then Buckingham ...)

V6 Coolant leak, Cylinder Head blown, how can I tell?

My Bongo woes seem to have multiplied :( (on top of "V6 erratic idling, cuts-out": http://igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=68973 ) A few miles from home, windscreen was suddenly/explosively showered with murky liquid from under the bonnet. (I don't think it's relevant, b...

Re: V6 erratic idling, cuts-out

I am trying to contact specialist, have sent a text. My petrol-head/Mini-guru mate reckons, in order: - stick some REDEX in the tank on next fill-up, in case one or more INJECTORS are partially blocked - listen carefully, has MISFIRE (evidenced by sooty plug) gone away since plugs+HT leads replaced?...

Re: V6 erratic idling, cuts-out

Firing order definitely ok: I just checked again, new HT leads all go from given numbers on Dizzy to Cylinders labelled as Mike's photo. VALVES: do V6s have an EGR? I read on another thread these can stick ?open, could this/another cause poor idling, should I BLANK it? I am in BEDFORD, MazdaBongo.co...

Re: V6 erratic idling, cuts-out

Ok, I found the CRANK SENSOR connector, re-mated it many times but no difference :( (With Dizzy cap off, I can reach it adequately from passenger seat, using head torch & wife's compact mirror perched on the fan cage) Not sure what to try next, MOT due in a few weeks, garage are good but not a B...

Re: V6 erratic idling, cuts-out

Thanks Mike, Geoff. PLUGS: service replaced Iridium's (BKR5EIX-11) with NGK's (BKR5E-11). What should Spark Gap be? I forgot to say that both the Distributor Cap +Rotor Arm were also replaced on service. HT LEADs: these were £60 for a new set of 7. Fairly sure I got the order right, although it took...

V6 erratic idling, cuts-out

A new Bongo season dawns, but mine is poorly so advice appreciated. 1999 2.5 V6 petrol, 69k miles, never missed a beat, including weekly local runs, until Jan cold snap :( A bit of bonnet ingress, as a few inches of snow thawed at bottom of windscreen, overflowing the channels. On its FIRST run afte...
