Resolved!

True to form, remote diagnosis from the Techies proved right once again. Many thanks. Our Bongo (rapidly slipping into the name Dave) has returned from surgery today with - you guessed it - a new thermostat. It seems the previous owner or his henchmen had hacksawed off the top of the old one, thus r...

Many thanks Max.

A little over my head I'm afraid but will print it out for my next visit to the Bongo Doc next week. He knows his onions - will be of great help.

Fuel Tank Capacity?

Greetings. My fuel guage is a bit erratic. Filling up just above the empty mark gives me around 35/40 litres. This can't be right - surely the tank holds 65 or so. . . I've got the original Japenese owners manual but my translation skills can't cope. Any ideas what the tank on actually holds?? Regar...

I work from Gildersome - pass your way twice a day. . . Be nice to see you out there!

I can thoroughly recommend a 1st class Bongo Doc in Cleckheaton if you have trouble with your repairs, he really seems to know his stuff. . .

Regards,

Greetings from Mirfield!

Hi all, Only been on here a couple of weeks, still finding my way around but am very impressed so far with the enthusiasm & fonts of knowledge available on here :D We're only just over a week into our 1st experience of this Bongo madness, (which has been a series of headaches so far - as some of...

Hmmm, Previous owner, (who - it must be said has been avoiding my calls & emails since getting his fingers on my hard earned pound notes), had a succesion of overheating problems in the recent past. Maybe he had that removed/disabled to help it keep cool. . . . Am I doing any harm driving like t...

Ok Tech heads - Underheating advice this time then. . .?

Following my previous thread, I seem to have gone from one extreme to the other & am looking for a pointer or two. . . Now we have a shiney NEW fully built up head, new waterpump, gaskets, oil & filter change & the old boy is running like a very smooth sewing machine. Good job. It seems,...

Hi Ron, Stick this guy on your list. He's straight, honest & (most importantly) knows his Bongo's. Recommended to me by Elams in Mirfield - they farm out work to him when they get snowed under. He took in a leaky bag of nails at 8am Friday, by half ten he'd identified the faults & 24 hours l...

Sorted. With a shiney NEW cylinder head too! Runs like a dream. My life is now complete. The spannerman is a Gem - really knows his Bongo stuff, anyone needing help around the West Yorks region should check out Dave at Benson Auto Services in Cleckheaton. Off to the Dales now for a proper test! :twi...

I'd suggest spending the money if you intend to keep yours on the road longtem. Assuming the rest is in good order, its sensible to renovate the "devil you know. . . ." Seven hundred quid may seem a large chunk but to get another 5 or 10 years life out of your best friend, its a good inves...

Worst case scenario day today. Diagnostic Doc reported that the head was indeed cracked. Bummer. On the plus side, he had all parts in stock & has managed to get the job done in a day. Bongo's resting overnight to check the coolant bleeding has been 100% succesful, then we're off tomorrow luncht...

If your speedo is 18% fast, does that mean the odometer is going 18% further as well ?
You may be only doing 400km to a tank full
Good point! .

But then the true mileage is a lot less too!

Mines got the 626 in.

No problem having the miles in km - infact its great 'cos you get around 500 to a tankfull of juice!!The only odd thing is the speed on the dial reads about 18% fast compared to my satnav speed. Maybe needs calibrating or something. . . .?
