There a bit in the members area with a contact number for a member who knows how to get in the bongo for this type of issue.

Defo helps getting rid of the fogging up in the vehicle, I tend to keep on on quite a bit during the winter on a toasty setting.

Had all those signs over the years, the UJ should chirp shouldn't it if its knackered. I have changed UJ's on my defender and that is an easy job costing about £20. I'll have to look at the members area to see the method used on a bongo. another cause of the vibration is having removed the prop shaf...

I'd wait for a full check to be done, then way up the options. £2000 does seem high, if the worst comes to it then source a second hand one from this forum and have it fitted. I have in the past brought whole engines with the gearbox attached and refitted them, heavy work but you could do it yoursel...
