Re: winter tyres 2011-2012

I didn't know that the Quatrac 3's didn't have the low temperature compound. If that's correct then it certainly doesn't seem to detract from their performance on cold tarmac. I switched from a set of 2's to 3's last winter due to the unavailability of the 2's. In all honesty, I can't say that I no...

Re: V6 - which engine oil?

Tried any of the after-market pop-tops? I notice Imperial are doing one now, and there are several others. Good hunting, it's a good motor.

Edit: ....a good motor but thirsty, so do the LPG conversion again if you go for one.

Re: V6 - which engine oil?

Interesting .. Do you always flush your engine before re filling ..?? On all my 'old' petrol cars I always did .. usually half a pint of diesel in the 'hot' engine ... then let it run for about 15 minutes .. But since using fully synthetic (and LPG) the old oil comes out nearly as clean as it went ...

Re: V6 - which engine oil?

That's a point I forgot - I've also never yet, in three years, had to top up the oil even a smidgeon. It's as full after a year's hard work as when it was last flushed and r...

Re: winter tyres 2011-2012

Quatrac 2s are no longer made in any sizes to fit Bongos but are now reserved for smaller car-size wheels. The 2s are actually the Quatracs which major on (and depend for all their effectiveness on) low temperature tread compound - and, this far south I've found them great in all seasons on our Bong...

Re: V6 - which engine oil?

It's 4.5 litres without a filter change, 5 litres with. I use Mobil 1 0w-40 fully synthetic, so I don't fear to run it quite hard from fully cold in the worst that gets thrown at us in winter, and to thrash it up hills in hot weather. Expensive, but changed once a year, so far at about 9,000 miles (...

Re: V6 issue with revs jumping up and down / stalling

Well I suppose the wheel was in regular use by 15/12/200 but I don't think Bongos were ex works that particular day.

15/12/2000

Re: V6 issue with revs jumping up and down / stalling

Yes, my "2001" (actually ex works 15/12/200 but showroomed until first reg the following April) V6 definitely has a Hall effect set up. Saw it when I changed the dizzy cap and rotor this year.

Re: Rattling whistle on V6 during moderate acceleration.....

Has Liberia got a deficit? Nowadays it's the "rich" countries of the west, ourselves included, which are painfully in hock. We're expected to pay back but Liberia isn't - perhaps that's the difference.

Yes, be positive and ignore me - it's just the idlers need a bit of grease!!

Re: Rattling whistle on V6 during moderate acceleration.....

Judging by my experience, and that of several other V6 peeps, it's at about the mileage where they typically do cost a bit, in order to renew much of that front end system - after that, given TLC and due maintenance, it should then give another long stretch without a repetition. Pity you got caught ...

Re: my v6 just cut out

Stuck pressure regulator valve? Downstream from fuel pipe, upstream from injectors.

Don't understand the questions about the fuel pump and other upstream fuel line components, as you've said you've got pumped pressure at the output end of the fuel pipe haven't you?

Ta Mike - just bought T-Cut clay bar kit before lunch! More likely cause Helen, if due to surface contaminants, is recent six months refurbishment of (upwind) house next door, inside and out - more builder's chemical stuff flying about than you can shake a stick at, including cement dust I spent a ...

Re: V6 issue with revs jumping up and down / stalling

You've done most of the things I did to try to cure similar conditions - but in the end I simply found that a very prematurely blocked air filter was the main problem. Lots of motorway driving, collecting excessive HGV diesel particulates in the process, was probably the root cause. Anyway, changed ...
