o.k. just one more.I read the MGF link and it is a very well researched topic. However does it apply to our Bongo's?? If the the system works the way I am suggesting, then as the stat rarely opens under normal conditions thermal shock will not be present, and when it does open it is to let hot coola...

Hi !! me again, this is going to be my last post on this subject co's I now find I'm repeating myself to no avail. If you read Bongopatrol's comment on the other topic Poll. is your bottom hose hot/cold. He states he went for a 85/90 MPH drive down the motorway and idled in traffic for long periods....

The bottom will never get hot on idle unless somthing is wrong. The engine must be well reved for quite a while before the stat opens and the bottom hose will then get hot. This is as it should be.

vanmanerik... Thats the way it should be. Top hot /bottom cold. If and when you stress the engine enough to open the stat it will be hot/hot. Try letting the engine idle for about 10 mins then rev at about 2500 for five mins. Observe the system pressurising and the expansion tank getting really hot....

Also under the seat is a socket which looks as though the plug is ment to be connected to. Any idea w...

Why does the bottom hose remain cool after driving 100 miles to-day at 70mph ? bottom hose cool=stat closed=rad not in use ???It's a fact

Speed shouldn't make any differance co's the stat will open and the rad kick in. Overheating must be caused by airlocks/blocked bypass/cracked head/blown gasket/waterpump. Now I am Going to watch the golf. Good Bongo

Well !! I'm going down to watch the golf now. I'll leave you boys to it. I still think i'm right and I'm sure the stat will not open under normal driving conditions and untill it does the rad plays little part in cooling. And thats final. I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken!!

you don't . you fit a new rad if they are there, and you won't know they are there till you pull the rad to bits.

One of the reasons the rads do get a bit blocked could be co's there is so little flow through them to keep things clean ???
