Re: Starter battery question....

A battery which is primarily intended as a liesure battery is never going to be an ideal solution as a starter battery. There are plenty of decent starter batteries around which will do a lot better. Naturally not. Nevertheless the Elecsol 100 is sold as a dual purpose deep cyle and engine start ba...

Re: Starter battery question....

I'm a great fan of Elecsol as both leisure batteries and leisure batteries which can double as fair starter batteries. However, if you're only , or even primarily, looking for a starter battery (which is required to deliver high current but not to withstand regular deep discharge cycles), I suggest...

Re: Whirring hum noise tracked down!

Good one Geoff - except that you've now got me worried that I can't hear mine  Is it working #-o Shan't be happy until I dig it out to check. I'm like Allan, plus I also have to knw why when I can't hear things which I think are normally there - sometimes it just turns out to be due to age-re...

LPG tank where spare wheel should be. V6

In another topic thread (http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=52759&p=529860&sid=34bad5e58551df02fe3a2f9005ffe90b#p529850), Helen has again raised the knotty problem of what to do if you've got a toroidal LPG tank instead of a spare. I think I've tried about everyth...

Re: winter tyres 2011-2012

Good bit of info Ron - I've just got a pair of Goodyear Ultragrip 8 185/60/14 for my SEAT for £114 delivered. They're the latest (manufactured October 2010) and carry the Alpine and M + S symbols. The cold weather is going to reach up here by the start of December so I'll be fitting them in around ...

Re: winter tyres 2011-2012

Only response to that is that if you fit Quatrac 3s now but only use them as winter tyres (they do meet the full winter specs after all), and refit the newish summer ones in the spring, then when the latter eventually wear out if it's before the Quatracs do, you'll have all-seasons tyres to then fit...

Re: Cautionary note - air filter V6

Our V6 has been rough running for the past two or three months - surging/stalling when LPG idling at warm up temperatures but smooth and power good in the normal LPG operating temperature range. Power down, and lumpy at all temperatures and engine load states on petrol....... > > Changed the air fi...

Re: Powering laptop from leisure battery

I agree with scanner. I use one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-QUALITY-UNIVERSAL-LAPTOP-IN-CAR-CHARGER-NEW-ITEM-/160360352210?pt=UK_Computing_LaptopAccessories_PowerSupplies&hash=item255638c9d2 and find it excellent - there are loads of others on Ebay. Just bear in mind that many older ...

Re: winter tyres 2011-2012

Hello folks, Apologies for re-visiting this topic, but most previous postings are a few years old. Am looking for advice and recommendations on winter tyres this year, in particular: - which tyres? - which suppliers? - are the insurance rumblings still rumbling or is it all over now (we're with Lif...

Re: winter tyres 2011-2012

It's not down to low speeds, anyway. Lots of, cruise-controlled, progressive acceleration, and me-controlled progressive braking (mainly engine braking on descents - not that that affects tyre wear) probably counts for a lot though. Still don't see how you can have nearly full tread left after 17,0...
