Re: Anyone risked life......... ? (V6)
In reality, I imagine there should be safety interlocks in the HID system, preventing you powering it up while the back cover is off - but I've never had them, and don't really know for sure. The "keep out" sign might just be health and safety gone mad, instead of just saying if you power ...

High Intensity Discharge (HID) xenon or similar, arc lamps, with 25,000 volts/10 amps initiators. Don't meddle - take to a specialist.

Re: Solar starter battery charger
The cigar/cigarette/12v auxiliaries socket is not normally live, once the ignition switch is switched off beyond "AUX", so if you want to use it for solar charging, get an electrician to re-wire it so it is. Maplins have a good deal on their 2.4 watts output panel, at the moment http://www...

Best info on all the current starter battery technologies, written in an understandable form, is perhaps here: http://www.driverstechnology.co.uk/car-batteries.htm *....

Or, from another viewpoint: HGVs tend to run all tyres at very high pressures, whatever the vehicle's loading, and that can be at the risk of other road users. Ha...
