Re: Elephant Insurance

It's all down to where you live, where it is parked overnight, what you use it for and how many miles pa you expect to do. Living in Central (or indeed most of) London (other high risk large cities are available), parking it on the street overnight and commuting 200miles per day will not get you in...

Re: Saw this at the NEC show.

For retro-fit it really would depend on how much more than just a new worktop was needed to fit it and just how much you would use it. The big advantage in a Bongo would be no need for a space munching (legal) gas locker and you probably would not even notice the extra diesel consumption. Bongos wit...

Re: Saw this at the NEC show.

It's only realistic if you are doing a new conversion and intend to use it a lot. If you compare it to the cost of a new gas hob and a new Eberspracher heater, then getting both of those fitted after finding space for the Eberspracher and space for a gas locker it starts to look better value. It tak...

Saw this at the NEC show.

Given the lack of space in Bongos it makes sense to double up on functions where possible. So how about this? A diesel fuelled hob that doubles as a space heater without any need to cut holes and fit heaters under the floor. Also it means no need to have a vented gas bottle cupboard (to stay legal) ...

Re: Insuring a converted Bongo

Without knowing where you live where the Bongo is parked overnight (garage/Drive/Road/carpark??) your age, your driving record, your NCB etc. etc. etc. that question is impossible to answer. If you are 21 live in central London, have no NCB and park it on the road it is brilliant. If you are 50+ hav...

Re: WLT?

Sorry but it is the other way round the WL (non turbo) and WL-T (Turbo) are Mazda engines nothing "Ford" about them. WL Engine; this was 2.5 litre basic diesel engine produced through 1992 to 2002. It was a non turbo engine. WL T Engine; this was another 2.5 litre turbo charged diesel engi...

Re: Split charge relay

With the engine running the starter battery should be at about 14 volts and when the relay closes the leisure battery should be at about the same voltage because it is then linked direct to the starter battery. With the engine off (and after leaving it a couple of hours for voltages to stabilise) bo...

Re: Insuring a converted Bongo

If it is converted and that conversion meets the DVLA criteria for "motorcaravan" body type get the V5 amended to show the correct body type. Some insurers require the body type to be shown as "motorcaravan" in the V5 before they will insure it as a "motorcaravan" which...

Re: Driving up steep hills

Whatever you do if you do pull over to let it cool off DO NOT turn the engine off, just let it idle so that the coolant continues to circulate.
If you stop the engine it is possible that heat soak will boil the coolant in the head and that could lead to real problems and damage.

Re: Latest journey 36 MPG roughly (diesel)....

Why aren't we just going over to one step past the hybrid to the true diesel/electric concept as used in railway locomotives for decades. But going one step beyond that to a small very efficient gas turbine running constantly at it's most economic RPM driving a generator feeding 4 electric motors th...
