Re: Rear heater matrix recommendations for a new one

Thanks TheLongRoad. That was one I'd been looking at although it's not clear it fits the year 2000 Bongo but expect it does. Ideally I'd like one with an air bleed screw on the top but I expect I'm asking too much. Any other suggestions or comments on the copper and brass one as per TheLongRoad's li...

Rear heater matrix recommendations for a new one

Hello, As part of our plan to keep our Bongo for ever I'm looking at replacing the rear heater matrix. I see the original matrix is a bit below the usual Mazda standard, particularly the plastic pipes. Thus I'm considering an aftermarket one - I see there are ones with metal pipes available. Has any...

Re: 215/65/15's all round ?

Just to add a couple of things...
Mazda originally spec'd thinner tyres for the front to lighten the steering
For anyone with 17" wheels and wanting to make the most of the AWD I can't recommend the following enough:-
Michelin latitude cross 225 55r17

Out if interest why not the diesel?
I realise the choice between petrol and diesel is a bit like choosing between killing the planet and killing it's people.
Mmm...OK, perhaps that's going a bit far...

Re: What angle for bleeding the cooling system?

Thanks for the reply. I tend to bleed twice yearly when changing the oil. Once I thought I'd give it a really thorough go and get rid of even the smallest of the small air bubbles. All went well until the coolant boiled... I go so far now as to check the air pressure before bleeding. Doubt it makes ...

Re: Best ATF

We used to use ATF in 50cc motocross bikes. Oil changes were every hour (every 20 minutes when wet) the little auto clutch taking 1/2 litre a time. The oil would get a right hammering and would always come out black and smelling burnt. Motorex was the most popular choice and appeared to last and per...

Possible cooling system mod?

Hello. Many people who frequently read this forum will have heard it suggested that you can have the sort of coolant leak whereby all is fine when the engine is cold, there's maybe a small leak or maybe no problem at all when hot but, as the engine cools the coolant system sucks air in eventually ca...

What angle for bleeding the cooling system?

Hello.
I always bleed the cooling system with the nose up by about 10". Is this correct or should one go higher or lower?

Re: Is it worth getting Auto Free Top - or simple Tin Top?

We've owned both and, whilst they both were the diesel they were very different beasts. The main difference with the tintop is the driving. It handles better and is a little bit faster. The aft however has many advantages when parked up. It depends what your needs are as to which you choose. Persona...

Fans of Martin Lewis will know that quotes vary depending on how far in advance you get them, the optimum if I remember correctly being 28 days.

Re: A question for those that understand batteries

Hi Geoff. I did consider the option you mention and it was a close second and yes, it is a diesel. The reasons I went for the timer relay were because if the leisure battery was heavily depleted then the edge might be taken off the starter battery when you turn the ignition on but prior to starting ...

Re: A question for those that understand batteries

A solution... Having contemplated various possibilities on how to make a leisure and starter battery set up work with solar panels I've concluded that the following should work - A relay to connect the two batteries when the ignition is on, disconnecting them when the ignition is off. An additional ...

Re: A question for those that understand batteries

Hi again. There is one 30 W solar panel that goes through a controller and to the starter battery There are two other solar panels, 190 W, going through a different controller and on to the leisure battery. Like I say, it's a bit involved. However, I'm confident I'll find a way for the system to wor...
