Re: 12v and 240v switch over

You'd need a solar panel the size of Hampshire to power a mains inverter. :) The problem is that to deliver 240V mains at a reasonable current, an inverter will consume even a large (110Ah) leisure battery in very short order, and the biggest solar panel would not even get close to keeping up with t...

Re: Vinyl or Cloth

I would go cloth with seat covers for the winter. A bit of mud will dry off and hoover out, along with any sand. Vomit and dropped ice-creams - this happens, you're right. But pretty rarely (?) and less as your tiddlers get bigger. Stainguard treatments work wonders, and there's usually a neighbour ...

Re: How often should I take out my Bongo?

Ours sits outside for weeks at a time without being run, and with a battery in decent nick that shouldn't really be an issue.

Over winter I would check the condition of the coolant in case the temps drop below freezing, but apart from that she just sits there, and starts every time.

Re: Why do brakes squeal ?

Chap next door to us runs a very nice Range Rover on a 12 plate. The brakes 'were done' before he bought it, but they've been squealing and for a posh vehicle it's just not cricket so, being handy with the spanners, he goes in... He showed me a removed brake pad last weekend, it was about 1/3 worn. ...

Ours was out last week for a little run, the roof was up, and it still works!

If this weather continues, I may have to get the buckets out...

Re: What do I need to do on my new Bongo

Before you collect it from the dealer, get them to give you a complete walk-round of the vehicle, including under both the front seats. There are so many comments and questions (mostly on the facebook pages, it has to be said) that start 'What does this switch do?', or 'Where is the engine oil dipst...

Re: Need a recommendation for a good garage near Newhaven to do my MOT

We are in Seaford and we have had excellent service from A Harris motors in Woodingdean. Our van has been there several times for servicing, engine repair and welding, they’re not the cheapest but they are a very good local independent ‘proper’ garage that knows the Bongo well.

I've not used them personally, but Bodyworx in Brighton are Bongo experienced and get good comments regarding quality and price.

Re: V6 timing belt change

I thought I post a little write-up of my timing belt change experience since there don't seem to be too many posts specific for the V6... Because it's such a task I don't think too many home spanner-wielders would take it on. First time working on a car And from this point on, everything you ever d...

Re: AGM Leisure Batteries

My work-buddy's car has just killed his (expensive!) AGM battery in 9 months after it was fitted as a replacement for a 'traditional' battery. Euro Car Parts listed both types for his vehicle (a modern diesel), as there is a variant which has the stop/start function. The garage fitted the wrong type...

This is one reason (of many) Haydn alarms are so highly regarded. You wouldn't get that kind of after-sales support from many companies.

Re: Heater not great, radiator maybe?

On the dash there is a cabin tempereature sensor - it looks like a bunch of little slots about an inch long. I've no direct experiance of the fault, but apparently the sensor can get bunged up with dust and debris and this may affect the operation of the heating. Or blocked heater matrix perhaps? Wh...

Re: Gone quiet

I too, read far more here than I post, mostly because I don't have much to add. I read a couple of the more popular Bongo FB groups as well, but with Facebook (all of it!) I find myself picking through lots of chaff to find the wheat. FB is much more instant than forums (fora?), but it is very in-yo...
