Re: ABS warning light not working

Hi, I had exactly this problem - somebody (not sure if the dealer or not) had taken the bulb out to mask an ABS fault (turned out I didnt have any front sensors at all!). Without resorting to new bulbs etc I took the dash clocks out and found the hole where the ABS should have been and swapped over ...

Re: GL-6 Oil for my LSD

Hi Rita,

Thankyou - I think thats the stuff I bought before I read that I needed fancy oil for my LSD.. so looks like I can stick it in.

If the breather was blocked would this cause the diff to leak/weap oil? Mines got a very slow drip from the bottom of the diff casing...

cheers,

Steve

GL-6 Oil for my LSD

Hi All, I have an LSD on my Bongo (yellow sticker had been undersealed over, but both wheels turn in same direction when jacked up) and it has a small leak so I want to top it up/ replace the diff oil. As a few previous posts have mentioned gl-6 oil is very hard to come by, but for those who do have...

Re: garage near Newbury Berks - stuck in third/hold flashing

Hi, I got my Bongo from a specialist at Lydeway -not far from Calne/Devizes - SCI Trading on the road to Pewsey I think - see them here.. http://dealerservices.autotrader.co.uk/27637/sci.htm Though I think they had some work done on it elsewhere and I think they mentioned Newbury - so probably Disco...

Re: Wishbone

Hi, Yep them thar old hubs are mine- I think its the O/S still has the wishbone attached - but this is because I was replacing the hubs and the wishbones together as the swivel wasnt too happy about me bashing the h*ll out of it trying to get it off and making a racket keeping the neighbours awake. ...

Re: Axle stand locations for changing front droplinks

Hi, Thats what I did - jacked it up in the centre of the front crossmember then 2 axle stands either side. I was under the impression that with drop links or anything ARB related you had to have no load at either end- otherwise when undoing the bolt on the unloaded side there would be a big TWANG pr...

Re: Wet drivers floor

Hi, From my experience of exactly this problem and replacing the matrix, I would say that if you can see it dripping from the bottom of the heater box then in all liklehood the matrix itself is leaking and will need replacing.. If its the stubs you should be able to see it leaking from them directly...

Re: Houston, we have a problem - coolant leak from hose

HI, Mine was doing EXACTLY this - I thought it was the pipes so I got some good ones from BongoBits - fitted them to find the problem remained, so I bypassed the matrix by using a short section to go between the 2 metal pipes. Bleeding the system is a lot quicker I found with this bypass in. I do in...

Re: Oil warning light but oil levels ok ?

Hi, Changed it about 2 months ago with a BluePrint item - I've just seen some posts about filters with failing anti-return valves and this seems quite likely. I'm using 10-30 semi synth I think. When it gets warmer I'll change it for "summer" oil and use a Mazda filter. This seems to be qu...

Re: Oil warning light but oil levels ok ?

Hi, Did you resolve your oil light problems? All of a sudden my oil pressure light takes 5-10 seconds to go out on a cold start - which it never did before. My oil level is fine too. It goes out quickly if the car is warm, been recently turned off i.e. filling up at the garage. It does go out if I r...

Re: Why two batteries and what size

Hi, If you have two in parallel then you have the winter pack - meaning your Bongo originated from Northern Japan which also means its more susceptible to rust. I know this - as I have one, though somebody pinched my second battery tray and mines also rusty. You should also see a funny little button...

Re: Lurching when handbrake applied?

Hi, Thanks for replies - I have changed the rear pads, but not looked at the shoes- the handbrake does seem to hold well. Mines a 2wd. I have had previous experience with rear handbrake shoes delaminating on my old Pug 406 - seized the rear wheel up! Will check it out when I get a chance. If handbra...

Lurching when handbrake applied?

Hi All, Recently my Bongo has started to give a little lurch when I've stopped the engine, auto in Park and handbrake on.. I've seen other auto cars doing this but my Bongo has only just started doing it. Its only AFTER I've applied the handbrake (which works fine..I think) - am I being paranoid or ...

Re: Wet drivers floor

Hi, My heater matrix had a leak from the core into the heater box which which then allowed the leak to spread out onto the drivers side well - if this is the case you should be able to see the drip from the bottom of the heater box on the console if you crouch down.. I'm guessing that if the leak is...

Re: DIY suspension and drive shaft repairs - easy or hard?

oops - didnt mention it in my reply (but goes without saying) that when you put the new track rod end back on the distance from the datum on the steering rack to the center of the new rod end must be the same.. Also, my new rod ends didnt have a castellated nut like the old one, just a nyloc nut so ...
