Thanks chaps really useful, i`ve just suffered a flat starter battery due to my leisure being flat and low on fluid so the engine was trying to charge the leisure more than the starter. Combine that with short trips and a light left on. I would like to be able to see volts and charging amps on both ...

Just found something similar but next to the sump, only difference is mine can be connected, will connect tomorrow and see what happens, would check with multi meter but just snapped the end off #-o

Any chance of a write up in English for us non techie folks, would love to have a couple of gauges telling me the volt and amp of both my batteries, but couldn't really follow the thread what with shunts and things :shock:

This is probably going to sound silly, but you could try a 2nd hand box, they cost about £250 quid, I know this is unpalatable after spending so much but at least you can tell if the problem is the box or car.

Starter motors

Hi all can anybody tell me the difference between the 2 types of starter motor. The reason is I've just put the spare new one on, it's slightly different but makes a hell of a whirring as it slows down after the engine is started. :shock:

Hi my cover gets warm in about 10 mins but its a dull warmth not a searing heat. Mines a 2.5 diesel.

Mines just started doing similar, I have a brand new starter on the kitchen table and the solenoid repair kit in the glove box. What's the betting it finally gives up away from home at 11 at night in the rain #-o

I changed mine last year and had no problem, as Ady says good quality socket and undo in a smooth manner even using an extension bar if needed. As for tightening before undoing these are put in at 17 NM into an alloy head and that is quite tight. I wouldn't do it.

Hi Ady, Vaseline is the answer :shock: Rear anti roll bar repaint and new rubbers/drop links tomorrow.
Hi M8ONGO there's always something to do, can you drop the name and address of the guy for the arches ,they will need doing shortly. After that I'm just going to enjoy driving the bloody thing :lol:

The best way of filling the arches is lowering bit harsher ride tho
