Re: Calais to Valtournenche (ItalyAlps)- To toll or not to t

I'd stick to the toll roads at present mainly due to the weather.

Its been very bad in northern France and Germany so the toll roads are far more likely to be clear than the other roads.

Re: Rear axle broke (i think)

Didn't know Bongos possibly had an LSD.

Is that front and rear or just rear?

Is there any other way to tell apart from the sticker? I cant see a sticker still being there after 15 years.

Re: HELP urgent snow related problem

Not sure where the fuel pipe comes out of the tank but is it possible you could get underneath and get a clamp on the rubber connecting tube?

Re: Frozen Will Not Start

Most motor factors will sell you a hydrometer for checking the coolant strength, (make sure its for coolant and not battery checking) for a few pounds.

Got one the other day to check mine and it said OK for -32C so even allowing for a bit of hit and miss it should be OK.

Re: Frozen Will Not Start

I think that the problem is that modern cars are generally so reliable that unless you are of the generation where you could do your own servicing the day to day details pass you by. The vast majority of vehicles don't get looked at from one service to the next. Look at the frightening statistics ab...

Re: Dodgy fuel guage

Whereabouts exactly is the service plate to the fuel tank?

I've only got short seat rails so I'm wondering if I will have to take the middle seats out to enable me to get the carpet up over the hatch.

Is it just the carpet that covers the plate or does it go under the side trim as well?

Dodgy fuel guage

My fuel gauge doesn't read full when it is. Reads just over the three quarters mark with the tank brimmed.

Not a big problem, but just wondered if there's a simple fix.

Any ideas please.

Re: Bongo in the Alps - Winter Checklist?

Big thick gloves, big torch and mat to kneel on when you put the chains on.
Not a fun job in the dark in the snow.

Re: Calais to Benidorm

Quite a lot of the Autoroutes have free bits (especially round the cities) but the Routes Nationale run generally parallel to the motorways so its easy to hop on/off the non toll bits if you want to. The French road atlases generally show the free bits. Another possibility is Calais Rouen Alencon, L...
