Re: 7 days till departure to france/spain - advice required
Scanners right about the wear and tear on you and the Bongo although doing a rough check I reckon it would cost about £100 more on the Santander option both ways, ferries, tolls, fuel. Don't forget you have to pay to eat on the boat and you are on it for approx a day and a half. If you are set up fo...

Re: 7 days till departure to france/spain - advice required
Can't help much with the Spanish bit but we regularly travel down to the Pyrenees usually using the motorways. Tolls are getting expensive now, approx 90Euros each way Calais to Pyrenees and not much less from Le Havre or Caen. I dont know where you are but Dover is a pain to get to for us so our pr...

Have a good time and don't forget to fill up off the motorways, up to 10cents a litre cheaper.

That should be plenty big enough Paul.
I can't remember what mine is but I have a feeling its 20 and 16 amp.
Wire the charging system into the lower of the two breakers and the 13 amp UK socket/s into the larger one.

Re: 110v to 240v conversion on original factory fitted kitch
Paul Sorry about the delay, been away. I got a lead with a US plug on it and then connected that to the main breaker switch at the front of the kitchen unit. Can't remember exactly where I got it but it was like this. http://www.rapidonline.com/1/1/8673-north-american-plug-lead.html Hope that helps ...

Also used one for ages.
Fit some pipe insulation to the bars with nylon ties, stops the frames getting scratched and rattling.

Re: Snowchains - 9, 12 or 16mm?
Hells bells that nasty, hope nobody was hurt. We had a full set of winter tyres on during the bad weather and didn't get stuck once even in deep snow. Out every day even when it was really bad. Definitely worth having. My main problem was having a lowish bodykit on the bongo ended up acting as a sno...

Re: Snowchains - 9, 12 or 16mm?
I'd go along with what bongodonkey says about snowsocks. We've got some for the car and they are great, wont last as long as chains and its definitely a nono driving on tarmac. Lot easier to get on/off though. I think they are probably as good as chains on ice (more contact area) but not quite as go...

Re: Eberspacher 24 volt heater info
I'm pretty sure it involved using some hefty diodes to stop the batteries feeding each other but I can't remember exactly how it was done.
I was considering doing it as the 24v ones are a lot cheaper than the 12v but eventually got a 12v at a decent price.

Re: Snowchains - 9, 12 or 16mm?
16mm is a very big chain for a car sized vehicle, more for an HGV I would have thought. The various chains I have used over the past thirty years or so have all been around the 9mm size I would guess. The bigger size will of course last a lot longer but will also give a lot rougher ride and be very ...

Closing the gap
I turned the middle seat round in the the Bongo as per the fact sheet recently and of course got left with the gap between it and the rear seat, also couldn't get the front passenger seat down to make the bed. I managed to get hold of some long seat rails and with a bit of hacksawing and carpet cutt...

Booking for the Friday and Saturday. Our daughter's at St Andrews uni and finishes the following week so it ties in nicely to bring some of her stuff back. It'll make a nice change as well not to have to pay £80--90 for B & B in St Andrews. Want to do the Elie Chain Walk as well assuming the cha...

Not sure about using a stainless bolt Barrington.
Size for size stainless doesn't have the same tensile strength as steel. I would be tempted to get to an engineers supply place and get a high tensile bolt with a nylok nut.
