Re: Bongo mod register..

Right! I've been hard at work, and I'm very pleased with the results, so I thought I'd post some photos of my latest mods The total list so far includes: Exterior :- - RX8 alloys with 225/55/R18 tyres (about 7% bigger than the normal tyres) - Undersealing Interior :- - JBL GT6-6C component speakers ...

Re: 18" Road Wheels

Hi Toby, it's a W reg. from the year 2000. I haven't had any tyre clearance problems. I chose this size, as I thought it might help fuel economy a bit on the motorway by keeping the engine revs a bit lower for a given speed. Also, I think the wheels look too small with 45 profile tyres on 18" w...

Re: I'll Get My Coat!!!

"Entymology"? Isn't that the study of those walking tree creatures from Lord of the Rings? (Etymology is the study of the origin of words).

Re: 18" Road Wheels

I have 225/55/18 tyres, and the speedo is pretty much bang on.

Re: Big Bad Bongo sub.

Why? Haha! What a question! Given the choice, would you watch TV in standard definition if you could watch the same channel in HD? Music is recorded, mixed and mastered on speakers that accurately reproduce 10 octaves (20 Hz to 20 kHz). The paper cones that come as standard in the Bongo probably onl...

Re: Big Bad Bongo sub.

Hey Tidmo, I'm bound to be around sometime. The Bongo currently lives in Birmingham, but it'll probably be back for a service in Cheltenham. Ah yes, Diplomat, you are quire right that that listening loud for long periods (or extremely loud for even short periods) of time can cause hearing damage. Ho...

Big Bad Bongo sub.

So... after visiting a small festival with my small subwoofer installed under the bed at the back I came to the realisation that it just wasn't loud enough to shake your internal organs while standing 10 metres away from the van, so I set about building a bigger one. One week's research, and one wee...

Re: Tyre Size

You can use the same size tyres all round. Lots of people use 215/65/15. The original tyres are narrower on the front, but have (almost) the same diameter. It is important to have tyres front and back that are the same diameter on a 4x4 Bongo, as the viscous coupling will lock up if there is a great...

Re: rattling side door

So, I took the panel off and greased everything, put it back together again only to discover that the rattle was actually coming from the door of the safe that I installed under the rear seat!

Re: rattling side door

Thanks for the tips on getting the panel off, especially the horseshoe clip tip! The panel is now off (why on earth did they use that black gunk to stick down the plastic cover?!). I'm going to tighten anything I can and cover it all with grease and hopefully the rattle will go away!

rattling side door

I've got this annoying rattle coming from the sliding door when driving, which somewhat negates the £300 I've spent on improving the sound system! It's not the tools, as I've taken these out and it's still there. It seems to be coming from the general area of the automatic closing mechanism at the b...

Re: engine oil

Yes, according to the 3000 miles service interval. But, this oil would probably last 20,000 miles, so I'm not really sure why it would need changing? I think I'll ask my mechanic what he thinks!

Re: engine oil

After reading 10 pages of info about motor oil on this 'Bob is the Oil Guy' website, I came to the conclusion that the best oil to use is a fully synthetic oil that meets the latest quality control specifications (not the old ones specified in your manual, which are just less stringent), and to use ...
