Re: Bit of steam, top of radiator
Sooo the day after I last posted we drove up the motorway to Stirling, walked up a hill and drove home. All good, no overheating, no strange noises no apparent loss of coolant. That evening I jumped in the van again, started up and the coolant alarm is sounding. Popped the bonnet, coolant below alar...

Re: Bit of steam, top of radiator
Hi Thanks for the replies, thought I'd update you all. New radiator fitted yesterday, van bled up well (according to my mechanic) we picked it up today, gave it a good run and all seems fine. Hoping to have a run up to Tyndrum at the weekend as we're now allowed out of our council areas a bit earlie...

Re: Bit of steam, top of radiator
Well no dilemma this morning as coolant alarm screaming on start up. Bodyshop cancelled and booked in with my mechanic for the 9th.
Thanks for the replies by the way.

Bit of steam, top of radiator
Hi, it's been a while since I posted on here. My bongo is still going strong after 8 or 9 years of ownership. It's meant to be going in to get its arches done on Tuesday, however tonight we noticed a small bit of steam coming from the top of the radiator. It's not overheated, we don't seem to be los...

First ever RAC call out
Today, for the first time in 8 years of ownership we had to call the RAC to get our Freda started.
One new battery later, she's on the go again.

Sorry to hear about your Bongo problems.
Just being nosy, would you pm me the Bongo garage name? Wondering if it's the same one we had problems with.

Re: Total cost of ownership
Hi We've had our 2.5 diesel for 8 years and for the first seven all we spent above normal servicing is: £100 coolant pipe replacement £60 diesel line replacement £200(ish) cam belt change. £100 jammed brake caliper Last Mot we spent £800 getting all suspension related advisorys done but I'm certain ...

Very hot wheel
Hi Haven't driven the van for a while (about 5 or 6 weeks). Today drove a couple of miles down the road to deliver a bed, then back home again. When I got home I noticed a very strong burning smell on the drivers side coming from the wheel which was very hot. All the others were fine. I'm assuming t...

Re: Toyota Hiace
They're all 'classic' campers so anything could still fail when you're abroad but the same could be said for any vehicle IME (other than Lexus which appear to be made out of granite). I'd be wary of any earlier diesel now, too. I was talking to my MOT man the other day and old diesels are strugglin...

Thanks for the reply.
Sadly just found out it only has lap belts so no longer going to view.
I'm sure I'll still be posting on here about a Freda alternative in 2030.

Toyota Hiace
Hi Still considering up-sizing from our unconverted Freda (been prevaricating about this for nearly 3 years). Our main gripe with the Freda (apart from size) is that we're too chicken to take it abroad in case of cooling issues. It's never let us down in the nearly 7 years we've owned it but we're s...

Re: Children in r&r seats
We kept our van unconverted for that very reason although I believe you can now get M1 tested beds for Bongos.
A side conversion will leave a very small bed, might be a bit tight for four of you.
Have you thought of looking at rear conversion's? Then you can keep the original middle seats.

Re: Aft roof mattress
Hi. We've just bought one of these and we can get our roof down with the mattress in place. Like the earlier poster suggests, the hatch needs to be down so there's a bit of faffing to press the lock cancel button, close the hatch and lower roof but it can be done. Remember to hold open the circular ...
