Re: Trip to Italy

I lived in Italy, and we are taking the Bongo there in 2 weeks :-) Places to go depends on your tastes but a few of my faves: 1) Northern Italy - eat all the meat you can! "Griglia/Grigliata" means a BBQ - always unmissable. If you end up anywhere near Valdobiadinne (where prosecco comes f...

Re: Got solar - now need a compressor fridge. Recommendation

The Bongo internal wiring is not thick enough to run a compressor fridge "effeciently". They will run, but they won't get the most out of the battery as the thin wire fools the fridge's low voltage cut-off into cutting out early. In layman terms, it'll work, but it will think your battery ...

I never pass up a fridge bargain. Got a coolmatic compressor fridge in my garage I snapped up for £70 last year :-)

Re: changing to motor caravan for insurance purposes

Same here two years ago. I even put a copy of my letter on this site in a discussion thread.

Letter, photos, description, and as mine was a self conversion, some receipts . was changed over with no hassle at all.

Re: Got solar - now need a compressor fridge. Recommendation

I'd agree with the Waeco option (thanls for the reecommendation btw :-) ) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Waeco-Dometic-CDF-18-portable-compressor-fridge-freezer-New-/271873864575?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3f4cf1f37f Though this is on offer and at £200 is a bargain in 12v compressor fridge terms ...

Re: Interior floor plan with dimensions?

I'll see if I have the sketch up plan still.

The box is my fridge footprint and the other arch is covered by a panel. :-)

Re: Bongo overheat spook (worth knowing abiout false alarm)

Ac cools air and as part of the process it also dehumidifies it. Very useful for demisting in a hurry.

I only use mine when I need it. 5% is 1.5mpg on mine . I'm not tight but I don't like throwing away money :-)

You can really hear the rpm drop when my ac comes on.

Re: Hi Newbie here - with a couple of questions

You don't need to sweat about the solar feed or the regulator. In an ideal world you reconnect the regulator to the battery before connecting the solar as this is when the regulator decides whether you have a 12v or 24v battery. In amazingly rare circumstances you could generate so much solar power ...

Re: Aft roof liner.

... and if you install panels further up the roof (only do this with thin light panels) then mount them so the cable exits at the side then it can go through the roof between the tent and the lifting rail. No need to go inside the tent.

Re: Split charge relay?

I'm about to make a new kit that handles more than 30Amps. Will be out in a couple of weeks.

30Amps does the trick nicely, but if you flatten your LB too much it'll pop the fuses in a blink.

Re: Smokey on startup and 1st few 100 yards

Odd. Done more testing. It starts fine when I leave the glow plugs on for 2-3x longer than the light suggests. Then a smooth start.

New plugs. Doesn't seem to make sense. Power rail screwed on properly to each plug.

Re: Rock and roll bed.... Hard to put away

In mine I put a strap in the middle section to "break" it's back. I also installed metal runners for the bed frame to slide on - makes a world of difference. Dead easy to put up. The runners I used are actually carpet door gripper bars.

Re: Leisure Battery and Solar Panel

Bolt the panel into the roof bar holes (assuming you have brackets that are suitable) and drill the cable hole 9 inches from the top rear, in the middle. That avoids the tent area. Make sure your panel covers the hole you drilled too :-) I then seal the hole with silicone sealant. If it's my kit (do...
