Re: The Rust Directory

I've just ordered some new rear arches from Bongo Spares and am looking for any recommendations for body shops in the Keighley area for fitting and respraying. On my last Bongo a mate did both sides for £950, but he doesn't have the premises to do it any more. Bongo Spares quoted around £850 a side....

Re: Coolant alarm problem

Levels looked fine, but I topped up anyway with diluted coolant. Much warmer morning today, but alarm is now worse. Took at least ten minutes before it stopped. All I can think is the screw is getting coated and then being cleaned as it warms up. I’ll give the screw another clean but dont want to do...

Re: Coolant alarm problem

That sounds more likely. The screw is quite new. Might have lost a bit when they refitted the alarm. I’ll check it when I set off home from work later.

Re: Coolant alarm problem

Just a quick update. I got a replacement alarm from Haydn. My mechanic fitted it a few weeks ago and it worked perfectly... for around a week. And then I noticed after a few days it was taking longer for the test alarm to stop. The weather has been getting a bit cooler so I don't know if it's that, ...

Re: Coolant alarm problem

Thanks Haydn. Not sure what all the thin wires were about. I didn’t remove it so not sure where they went! I’ll let you know how I get on.
Cheers.

Re: Coolant alarm problem

Cheers. Just to clarify, it’s only been the last four months that it’s been particularly bad. Had it a few years without any squeaks.

Re: Coolant alarm problem

I tried the wire thing and the alarm kept going. Had it in the garage today and have had it taken out. It was getting worse after having the new battery fitted. On for around 80% of my commute at random times. Fast, slow, stationary - no particular pattern. Haydn - I'd like to take you up on your of...

Re: Coolant alarm problem

Latest update: We were lucky enough to win a Bongo Health test from Bongo Spares from their Xmas promo on Facebook. The battery was reported as poor and despite the alarm going off most of the way there they couldn't get it to go on while in their garage (we were there for an hour). The coolant leve...

Re: Coolant alarm problem

Picked up from my garage yesterday. Battery and glow plugs tested fine. He changed the terminal ring - and probably did a better job of it than me. He told me that hadn’t managed to get any false alarms from it. I drove it two miles home and there wasn’t a single squeal. Drove ten miles to work this...

Re: Coolant alarm problem

My local mechanic got back to me today to say the battery and glow plugs are all fine. He asked me if I wanted to disable the alarm. Before I do this, is there anything else I need to check? I want this alarm to work purely for low coolant and nothing else, otherwise I can’t trust it and I need to l...

Re: Coolant alarm problem

You convinced me then, but I’ve tried to get a new battery - twice since. These are the read outs from the first trip to Halfords. https://www.dropbox.com/s/0lawcc6bokauysl/IMG_4274.JPG?dl=0 As mentioned before, I was bewildered by this and wondered if they’d read the batteries the wrong way round a...

Re: Coolant alarm problem

Not used the Bongo for a few days as I’ve had this lurgy that’s going around. Tested the battery this morning. Before starting : 11.6 After ten miles with engine running 13.7 I noticed glow plug light took a few seconds to come on when I turned ignition on and it was a very lumpy start. I let the en...

Re: Coolant alarm problem

It has been starting a bit toughlyvrecrntky do I was wondering if glow plugs might be an issue, but would that contribute to it going off five minutes into a journey?
