Re: The Rust Directory
Just had my rear arches replaced with Sprinter ones by Melvin Davis of Matfield Body & Paint, near Tonbridge, Kent. He's a classic VW camper expert so knows all about keeping old campervans on the road! Mine was his first Bongo but he had no trouble doing the job, which included a bottom half re...

Re: How much for a full respray & rear wheel arch replacemen
I had actually clicked through - really interesting set of pics. There seem to be two versions of the Sprinter arches available - 'shallower' ones like Paul has used, and then the more commonly advertised ones which are more extensive (and expensive!). I was wondering if, with the bigger ones, most ...

Re: Faded headlamps - a solution
Ok, here's another one I've just thought of: wood ash from the log burner. We use it on a damp sponge to clean the glazed doors of the woodstove, and it works a treat. Didn't think of it until after using the Autosol but will try it next time. And it's free.

Re: How much for a full respray & rear wheel arch replacemen
Matfield Body & Paint, near Paddock Wood in Kent. 07748477661. Haven't had mine done yet but he comes recommended. He's very into VW campervans but I think mine will be his first Bongo. I'll make a point of showing him some of the pics from this forum! Mine will be done in January so I'll post a...

Re: How much for a full respray & rear wheel arch replacemen
So leaving aside the final look, which is easiest to fit - Sprinter or Transit?
BTW, just been quoted £800 for both arches and a bottom half respray. And I live in the South East!

Faded headlamps - a solution
After trying various things pre-mot (they were an advisory last time round) I found that Autosol chrome polish does an excellent job, for the minimum of effort.

Can you identify a wire for me please?
It's a black insulated wire leading from the driver's side AFT motor and disappearing through/under the driver's side AFT hinge. That particular hinge is caked with rust and I'm worried the wire will suffer. If it's an earth, no prob as i can relocate it. If it's a power feed that's a bit more of a ...

Rear awnings - any advice?
I have a rear-mounted kitchen and one of those small Khyam awnings which, I have to say, isn't very good. I know that Outdoor Revolution do a very nice full tailgate awning (Cayman Tail) but it's quite pricey - has anyone managed to adapt a regular side awning for tailgate use?

Re: European Breakdown Cover - 2013 update
Great research there! I have a 1996 V6 Bongo, and a UK breakdown policy with the RAC. They have just quoted me, as an addition to my existing policy: Single trip breakdown cover for 22 days: £90. One year breakdown cover: £116. One year breakdown cover plus 1 year travel insurance for me and my wife...

Re: loos on french aires
All the Aires on main routes have toilet facilities, which are usually pretty good (though not exclusively so!). However, many of the smaller town or village Aires don't, even though they generally have toilet waste disposal facilities.

But beware - the Nantgwynant site can be midge-tastic in the summer!
Another one worth considering, with excellent facilities for families and a 'no groups, no noise after 10.30' policy, is Cae Dhu, which is also just outside Beddgelert.

Coolant system bleed procedure
I hope this isn't too stupid a question but as there are several fact sheets giving alternative methods of bleeding the system, does this mean that the official procedure in the Mazda handbook and manual doesn't work?
