Re: Dodgy alternator

White plugged solenoid is working OK, i.e it clicks in and the revs rise slightly, can also see the throttle move when it clicks in. When the compressor comes on though the revs drop more and the voltage drops. Was not so bad yesterday (only dropping to 13v at tickover with AC on). It is only the ...

Re: Dodgy alternator

To answer an earlier question regarding revs: The revs drop when the (front) ac is active, and stay dropped! What does tha mean?

Re: Dodgy alternator

....Update. The volts only drop when the fron aircon is running. Rear can be running and fan at full pelt with no drop. Pressing the auto button on the "Climate" control then causes the volts to drop, and the faster the fan, the lower the volts. Recently replaced fan resistor (transisitor - as it is ...

Dodgy alternator

Help needed bongonauts!

I put a new alternator on our 97 2.5D a couple of years ago (fleabay item). I noticed before that if the aircon is on the headlights dim when the revs drop (decelarating for instance), On sunday, with front and rear aircon on the Haydn temp/voltage alarm started beeping and ...

Re: Intermittent front heater fan

Tried all speeds, nothing, but I suppose the tranny module could fail completely? Sorry to ask, where is it located (guessing in box above aircon cooler against bulkhead)?

Re: Intermittent front heater fan

Thanks, done that - no joy. Spins up no problem with direct 12v from battery - so don't think thats the issue.

Intermittent front heater fan

Hi all - I'm scratching my head so ANY help would be welcome! My Bongo has digital "Climate control", 1997. The front fan stopped blowing, but rear is fine. Found that fan was stcuck, rather than seized, turned by hand and worked fine. Started the van next day and smoke blows in through vents...fan ...

Re: What goes click?

So after a trip to the Vendee covering 1800 KM I can confirm the click is actually 2 things:
1 - Aircon compressor (solonoid?)
2 - engine rev control (when cold)

Lights dim when aircon kicks in if revs drop (ie lifting foot from throttle): Voltage at tickover = 14.5v (even with lights on full beam ...

Re: What goes click?

Mm, after a little fiddling the mystery click seems to be related to whether the "Climate control" is on - in auto mode the "click" is present. However I can't confirm this 100% due to time constraints. Presumably if I have a dodgy earth lead then lack of current could cause aircon control to ...

Re: What goes click?

I'm wondering if you disturbed/changed something when you movd the stereo wiring? Or did something in the wiring get hot & melt a bit causing a partial short somewhere? Can you disconnect the LB charging side & see if it still happens? Probably not it, but worth checking.

Should be simple enough ...

Re: What goes click?

Your Bongo might have one of them Japanese headlight dimmer systems fitted that dim the headlights when the engine is ticking over.Never seen one fitted but it has cropped up on the firum before.

Re: What goes click?

The alternator failed last year - new one fitted. LB is fitted and charged via a voltage sensing relay (smartcom). I recently discovered that the JVC audio system was drianing the LB (it is now wired so that it is only fed from the switched acc from the ignition. The interior and blinds are fed ...

What goes click?

When I lift my foot off the throttle on my 97 2.5D there is a click - about 1 or 2 seconds later (solonoid or vacuum operated switch I'm guessing); when this click occurs my headlights dim slightly and only get back to full brightness when I accelerate again! Any ideas as it's driving me mad......

Re: Warning Lights Glowing Faintly

I had this happen; it was indeed the alternator failing - it was only delivering 12.1 volts when running with any load.
