Re: bongo stops completely and seems electrical
Hi, I've read about camshafts breaking on these Bongo diesel engines. It could be that if the timing belt is turning too fast (does it sound like the engines turning over quicker than normal?) the top cam pulley is still "timed" via the belt to the bottom crank pulley -but a break in the c...

Re: RWD Differential problem?
Hi, I had something very similar with an old Pug 406 with rear disks and handbrake drum in centre - the rear handbrake operated off shoes in the drum and these can delaminate, meaning the friction lining comes unstuck and depending on the amount left, shape of the drum can get wedged and stopping an...

Re: ABS light not on
Hi, I had the same problem - noticed after a big skid towards an oncoming tractor in a leafy somerset lane that the ABS wasnt working.. I then recalled I'd never actually noticed an ABS light. I took a look at the back of the dash only to find a bulb had been removed, replaced it with one from the A...

Re: is this a limited slip diff ?
HI, One sure fire way is to jack the rear of the Bongo up so both wheels are off the ground - make sure you have it in neutral and the front wheels chocked (you will need level ground)! With the handbrake off, turn one wheel by hand - if the opposite wheel turns in the opposite direction then its a ...

Hi,
I'm also in the Oxford area and if I need any s/h bits I go to Discount Trucks down near Newbury (nr Washaway on the A34) - they don't advertise on ebay but they are always breaking a few Bongo's so if you're in the area they should be able to help.
cheers,
Steve

Re: Head gasket replaced; no start/run V6
Hi, I have no experience specifically on the Bongo petrol engines but I do know on lots other types things like cam position sensors, crankshaft position sensors can go wrong- the ECU needs a signal from these and if it finds none it will never fire the ignition. If the heads have been off it could ...

Re: blowing exhaust - which bit is this?
Hi, I've had some recent similar problems with the 4-part exhaust on my winter-warmer bongo. You can get these small connectors but I had two and the flanges were not constructed properly so will not sit flat against the winter warmer exhaust valve. I had to go to my old system and get this part off...

Re: refilling evaporator with gas & coolant bleeding
Hi, Definitely get it pressure checked by a known good outlet - I replaced my rear matrix with one off ebay and got some new o-rings from Bongo-HQ. I asked the garage to pressure check the integrity of the system and they said they had. Nevertheless, it had all escaped with 3-4 hours and that was £8...

Re: exhaust replacement question
Hi, I had a similar problem when replacing my system - all bolts completely seized and I didnt fancy spending hours underneath with a hacksaw on my driveway. So with a bit of waggling I managed to get the whole system (from cold start vaccum valve backwards) out from the back of the Bongo - however ...

Hi, I think you need a wheel bolt with an integrated shim so as not to damage the alloy (& causing cracks...). When I went to replace my steels with alloys from a Mitsubishi (outlander) I got some bolts from a Toyota main dealer ( I was in a hurry and at the tyre fitters too!) - these were a dir...

Hi,
Mine's been doing this for a while.. thought it was something to do with a hole in my exhaust - fixed the exhaust and the noise is still there. She's not been used very much, perhaps just as well. Will check tonight! Yikes!
Cheers,
Steveyd

Re: Replacement Exhaust issue
Hi, You can use the long front pipe from a 3 part system - try Regis Exhausts on ebay - I asked them and they had them in stock. This will replace the valve and the small elbow joint. From this point backwards the system is the same for all 2.5td Bongo's. BTW - if yours is a winterpack Bongo I'd get...

Hi,
I had a set of droplinks go a year after fitting! The rubber had perished. Also if you didnt replace the ARB bushes on their mounts this could be/also be a source of noise.
cheers,
Steve
