Re: Coolant bubbles advice. Video

Thank you, there is some reassurance from your responses. A few more facts. After the event, I did spend a good while trying to bleed it at full temperature, but the bubbles kept coming. When the RAC came, as the lanes were very narrow, I suggested driving behind them, monitoring the temperature and...

Coolant bubbles advice. Video

I recently drove down a particularly bumpy hill to a campsite (Biblins in Monmouth, if you know it) and at the bottom the engine saver showed I was overheating. I am guessing I had shaken the sh*t out of the radiator resulting in a blockage. The overheat only just knocked on the door of 100C before ...

Expansion tank capacity

I've been tinkering and flushed my coolant system. A necessary job as I replaced one of the metal pipes. Having a few issues The tank was at a good level when hot at 6pm, but I just added about 400ml as it had dropped. Would this amount of loss take it below the expansion pipes and therefore require...

Re: Air in the system after rough ferry crossing.

Thanks. It was taken on the way back from Monasterie le Piedre in Aragon. We camped at Savinan Park site. Right in the middle of the mountains. Lush. I can't recommend the temp sensor enough. As soon as you do it, you will become obsessed with the number 86! I checked visible hoses earlier and there...

Re: Air in the system after rough ferry crossing.

Unfortunately my LCA is not working. Something I need to attend to when I have unpacked.. The Temp Gauge is fitted to the metalwork just behind the top of the top hose. I've no idea what make it is. Haydn Callow gave it to me from his box of prototypes. It is pretty accurate and has been a great gui...

Re: Air in the system after rough ferry crossing.

Thanks for the replies. I am sure it is not the gasket as after an emergency bleed it ran fine for four hours home. I am due to check the system over now I am home and hope to pick up on any leaks or faults. I have to say I am now a lifelong fan of a digital temperature gauge. It has saved the engin...

Air in the system after rough ferry crossing.

Coming off the ferry from Santander, the digital temperature reading rose quickly to 95 and the bottom hose was cold. Luckily I had a funnel and sure enough the Coolant system was full of air. The crossing was very very rough. Is it likely that the rocking and rolling had allowed air into the system...

Re: Automatic Transmission Fluid

I have just spent the afternoon changing the transmission fluid and I have to say it has been one of the most satisfying DIY jobs I have tackled. Removing the pan was quite easy although slow going to allow the fluid to escape safely. The bottom of the tray was coated in a thick black sediment and t...

Re: 10W40 or 5W40 ??

I believe 5W30 is the recommended oil for the Ford Ranger 2.5TD engine according to the Castrol Magnatec website, they don't list the Bongo, but for those who don't know, it's the same engine.

Asda are currently selling fully synthetic 5W30 at £12 for 4 litres.

Rear drop link bolts?

What size are the nuts and bolts for the rear drop links?
Are they standard and can I ask for them from Halfords or Screwfix?

Thanks in advance.

OIL FILTER?

Can anyone tell me whether I can get an oil filter for 2.5TD from Halfords?
I am just going out there now, so apologies for not searching the forum.

Any advice appreciated.

Replacement Oil Filler Cap

Somehow I have managed to lose the oil filler cap. On the plus side, the passenger side engine bay will never get rusty. Neither will the road outside my house #-o

GAS PANIC!

Just wanted to share a range of emotions I experienced this afternoon. My wife called to say Bongo won't start properly...loads of white smoke.....juddering.......no revs. I rushed home expecting the worst and this was realised when I started up. Juddering and no response from the pedal. Eventually ...
